  • Cohiba 55 Anniversario

So for those who haven't read my post my recent post, I was very generously gifted a 55th, on the good ship MSC Euribia, which has the distinction of a smoking lounge, all be it of a modest size.

57x150mm 5 7/8". Victoria. 2021 Release, actually released 2022, in boxes of 10; (number of boxes not listed in Cuban Cigar info page).

So full disclosure, I am not the best person to review this cigar as I am not keen on EL's because of maduro wrappers & this was much fresher than I wouldn't normally smoke Cohiba's, with less than 5yrs & EL with 10yrs age.

However, a gift is a gift & the doner wants to see you smoke it & your reaction. So, I avoided the temptation to take it home to smoke later.

Appearance: Well, it is certainly the blingiest cigar I have ever seen, with three bands, Inc. the foot one. Wrapper maduro.

Pre-light draw: The best part for me, was an amazing, rich & deep aroma, that assured me it was the real thing. A tad more than a typical Cuban firm draw. No hard or soft spots.

I punched to start, but as I suspected, had to cut to improve draw, shortly afterwards & produced an acceptable draw. I found the RG large & at this size, would have preferred it to be a piramide. Meant several times to take a pic of the cut cap to show construction, but never put it down.

Lit well, smoking indoors meant it hardly needed a touch up

First 1/3: Lighter, as you'd expect, but matched well with my coffee.
    Second 2/3: Best part, lush!
Third 1/3: Not to my taste, time will improve, even my compaion put his down before it reached the 2nd band.

    Smoking time:2hrs.

Value for money: Very subjective to your previous experious & what your prepared to pay for a special event/ celebration? Personally, if I was crazy enough to spend a similar amount on a single cigar, I'd rather buy a vintage Dunhill, but then I love vintage cigars, as much as others prefer fresh.

Verdict: If you love Maduro wrappers, younger cigars & want to impress, this would fit the bill. Personally, although this was x3 more than my previous expensive cigar, it certainly wasn't the best, for my tastes. But it was an amazing experience, shared with a fellow C. A. (all be it on a very different budget) & I am very glad to have shared it with him.

P.S. I gave him my most valuable cigar in return, a Cohiba 2011 1966. I have smoked several & to be honest this it's a better cigar but again, my personal taste.
IN return he gave me a Behike 56!

Phone dying, more details & pic's tomorrow.

Good opportunity to try these things. Otherwise I wouldn't. Also good to be able to see what the fuss is about.

As we were saying he must be very well connected to be able to get access to so much Behike stock so must have interesting ties. Money isn't enough any more in this game lol

And a great exchange from you back I think.

Hope the 56 is on point.

I think I may finally have this CAD under control...

A decent meal to line the stomach, duck + two glasses of Merlot. Coffee to start the cigar, folled by a Negroni. The exchange is shown, of a 2011 & Behike 56. The Ash hanged onuntil I was sure it would fall on my DJ, had to tap it twice to make it drop. Quite a night.

I have had one Cohiba 54 & 56 before, & wasn't impressed with either. The 52 is an excellent cigar & many agree it's the best. Of course, if you favour larger ring guages you may have a different opinion. But it's not just the size, it's milder.

Anyway, I will be sticking it in the Boli Cave & will keep 5yrs & smoke at an appropriate celebration. Maybe a 25lb+ Pike!

I'm the opposite, I'm hoping smaller ring gauges make a comeback. I do love a good robusto, but I think the wider = better craze has had its day.

It's good to hear that these ultra-premium smokes are not really worth coveting. It's hard enough being a newish cigar smoker with the current pricing, whilst knowing that some previous legendary and unicorn releases will forever be out of reach

I'm sure you'll definitely have something worth celebrating when the time is right
