Felt compelled to write a few words on this cigar following my previous posts on how few NC's I feel come close in enjoyment to my favoured Cubans.
This cigar comes adorned with a gold band round the foot and an ornate embossed Augusto Reyes band (for those who like that sort of thing.
The cigar itself is a beautiful, oily, dark chocolate colour with few veins. It is firm to the touch and heavy, hinting that it is well packed and constructed.
The smell is of leathery, earthy tobacco with a slight hint of chocolate. On cutting, the prelight draw is firm but in no way tight and the flavour an intensity of the above.
The flavour initially is earthy with some chocolate but this soon develops with more of the leathery taste, coffee and a hint of spice. As it progresses the coffee and leather take over and at about halfway some sweetness creeps in before finishing with more spice and coffee.
The cigar, contrary to some reports, burned well, only needing touched up once in the duration. It is probably not one for the faint hearted being definitely medium to full bodied. It produced masses of smoke throughout, as verified by my wife who, on bringing me a Bombay & tonic out to the garage where I was working (some 30 yards from the house) commented that she had smelt it as soon as she opened the back door.
this cigar lasted me a good 80 minutes, so ideal for the rugby, with a short break for the half time pie.
All in all a thoroughly enjoyable smoke and definitely one to be added to my short list of NC's that I will be sure to revisit.
