hey all,
for the course of the summer, i bought a couple of small boxes (10 counts) of larger cigars!!! by larger, i mean both ring gauge and length!!!! of all of the cigars i bought, there was one that outshone the rest........... the CUABA SALAMONES!!!
i wrote up a small, quick review of this cigar a while ago, but tonight, the point hit home home!!! this is a FANTASTIC cigar with little wrote up on it!!!!
i've now smoked 5 of a box of 10 and i feel it now deserves a proper review!!
i finished work relatively early tonight, and had my supplies in!!! some nice wine,a half bottle of southern comfort and a slab of lindy 90% dark chocolate!!!! after a lovely sunday dinner at my mother's (that's another story), i thought i'd retire to the 'smoking lounge' (her back garden)!!! initially i'd planned on an h upmann magnum 50, then i thought 'F**K it', a CUABA SALAMONES!!! i'm sooo glad i did.....
figuring it's a relatively nice evening, with plenty of time to spare, i elected said cigar!!!! everything about it suggested a quality smoke!!! great construction, great aroma cold, great taste cold!!!! drinks poured, cigar cut, let proceedings beginn........
right from the off, things were great!!! initial taste were lovely...... grassy, herbally, green tea!!!! the first quarter passed by nicely! medium bodied, clean tasting etc etc!!!! after about an inch, the ash fell off, then it raised it's profile!!!! a beautiful earthiness kicked it, with a lovely leathery aroma!!! a nice toasty taste came though, with nice herbally/ green tea tastes!!! after a progression of about another inch, new flavours came through....... wild mushroom, chestnuts, baked potatoes (cooked on a BBQ no less)!!! i was in heaven!!! this was developing into a great cigar!!!! the aromas were great, the burn fantastic (you coudn't have gotten a straighter edge, except from a set square)!!! the flavours got more intense over the rest of the cigar, with the flavours mentioned ebbing and flowing in and out!!! this was showing itself to be the perfect 'outdoor' cigar!!!!!
the cigar lasted the guts of 2hrs, smoked at a relaxed pace!!! never once becoming too hot, bitter or too much...... a pefect smoking experience!!! the mild bodied, earthy flavour perfectly complemented the size!!! given the unpredictable weather, this is probably my last chance to smoke one of these!!! given this was an 2009 box, and smoking sooo well, i wonder what another year or more would do for these!!!
easy a 92+ scoring cigar!!!! my advice is, get some in now for next summmer!!!! the perfect cigar for a lazy summer's eve or BBQ!!!!
all the best,
alex
