Wrapper: Costa Rica (Cuban seed)
Filler: Nicaragua (7 year)
Smoke time: 1hour 15mins
This cigar was gifted by George to several Forum members along with a dire description of its credentials as a ?dog-rocket?. Well it isn?t!
Appearance:
Apart from it?s obvious eccentricity (see pic), the cigar has a rough but attractive dark brown wrapper with pronounced veining. Not too oily or dry and silky to the touch. The front blind end is perfectly rounded and the body has an almost imperceptible taper from front to rear.
Construction:
Scissor-snip of the hairy tail, clip away the triple-cap to the figurado with my trusty Cuban Crafters cutter, light the blind business end with one Swan Vesta and away we go. The draw throughout the smoke was in the main easy and effortless, however in the last quarter the draw became much tighter, my only remedy, as I was really enjoying the smoke, being to slow the puffs down considerably. The burn was nigh-on flawless from start to finish and the slightly darker than usual NC ash was well formed and nicely compacted.
Flavour:
From the outset the smoke has a soft sodaish quality to it and retain it right to the end. The strength is mild to medium and very pleasant for that. (I managed to smoke it without any liquid accompaniment). The flavours within the smoke are subtlely complex. Caramel on toast with a hint of bitter lemon, licorice. Then those flavours become more ?honeyed? and then woodier. Next a taste akin to dried grapefruit peel with a dash of saltiness kicked in. Towards the end of the smoke, darker the flavours became darker and more tea like with the odd surprise like almost-rhubarb for good measure.
Overall Rating:
I liked this cigar very much. Although I didn?t expect to after Rokkit?s description of his experiences. It is a mild, light smoke, but has bags of flavour complexity and, for an 1hr.15min smoke, is supprisingly refreshing. To all Forum BOTL who have a Rokkit-gifted Flechas squirreled away into the furthest recesses of their humi?s, I would recommend digging it out and smoking it ? I think George was pulling our plonkers!
