Well guys, this is my first review so go easy!
I bought this cigar a few days ago at C. Astons in Manchester whilst browsing for some humidor fillers. I spotted this tubo and thought I'd give it a shot, for ?8 it's worth a punt eh!
I got it home and decided to keep it in the tube, out of the humidor to preserve its 'Whisky' flavour. But the lack of humidification cannot account for the horror that awaited.
6" x 42
The appearance of the cigar is very good, few veins and a nice medium chocolatey wrapper. The filler is tightly wrapped but not so much as you would expect to impart on the draw. The cigar has a faint whisky smell, but nothing special. The cigar is machine made though, so you can't really credit it much on these qualities. The cigar comes pre cut, but the cut is good, straight and even, not like the horrendous cut I've seen on Guantanameras. But, for an ?8 machine made cigar you expect this, don't you. The pre-light draw was a little on the loose side, but I could live with that.
8/10 for appearance
So, spurred on by optimism, I fired it up. The first draw set the standards for the entire cigar. I had to really strain to pick out any noticeable flavours, I got faint whisky and really just 'burning flavour', if you know what I mean. Like burning wood and a glimpse of whisky. Never mind, I soldiered on, undeterred, presuming something would change. It didn't. It was the same boring, burning flavour all the way through. Awful.
3/10 for taste
The ash was a light grey and held on for quite a while, but I found myself breaking it off often just to reassure myself that the cigar would end! It became a chore to smoke, not enjoyable at all. In the end I finished it with about 3" left and moved on to a Montecristo Mini, anything to get away from the Vasco Da Gama. The burn was average for a machine made cigar, it burnt about as fast as a Hamlet. A short cigar thankfully. However, it never had to be corrected and burnt straight as a dime.
7/10 for ash and burn
So, overall, disappointing for ?8. The taste was terrible but it looked promising at the start. The burn was good, however, you don't buy a cigar to stare at how level the burn is, do you.
Overall, I wouldn't recommend this cigar at all.
