Please bear with me; I've never written a review of a cigar before! (Camera equipment, percussion instruments and carp fishing tackle no problem; cigars not too sure!)
This evening I've enjoyed a La Rica Robusto. And mean really enjoyed it. It was delicious. If I could have gotten away with eating it I would have done. I'm still a newbie, and my experience is limited, but to help I'm splitting this into the sections many of you do. My apologies if this review sucks...but I thought I may as well have a stab!
Robusto tubo from La Rica! 5" x 50 ring
Wrapper: Ecuador shade
Binder: Sumatra
Fillers: Nicaragua Jalapa & Esteli
Appearance /15:
Comes in a lovely vivid tube; bright yellow with big black lettering telling you just what's inside. The band is just as vivid! A smooth finish to the stick, a fairly light wrapper. Not masses of veins, and the ones that are there are fairly fine. The cap is fairly well attached, but looks a little scrappy. 13 points
Smoking characteristics /25:
Lit first time, but even rotating evenly ended up with a bit of side burn, but this corrected itself in next to no time...could have been my fault anyway! Once lit the birn was flawless, even all the way down. Ash was pretty solid, not as solid as my normal Chinch Sportivo though, but a lovely pale, almost white in places. Smoke wise this thing was closer to a smoke machine than a cigar; it was phonomenal. The smoke was thick, heavy and lingering and the aroma was something else. And it was cool to the end. The only fault I can pick is that it needed relighting twice on the way through which was annoying, but aside from that this thing blew me away. But the relighting was annoying...so I'm knocking a point off for both times it happened and another one for the uneven light. So 22 points.
Flavour /25:
A consistent smoke. Pleasurable all the way down but not masses of development. It was smooth all the way down, creamy throughout with a hint of spice and leather towards the end, with a little harshness at the finish. This is by no means a nasty smoke, but the lass of complexity was a little dissapointing, but I'm happy knowing exactly what I'm getting next time I fire one of these up. The marks lost are purely becuase of the harshness at the end and the lack-lustre development. 20 points.
Overall impressions /35:
I loved it and have already recommended it to one of my boys at work. Lacked the 'Nic-Kick' I love about Chinchalero stogies but still has plenty to offer. Perfect with a glass (or 6) of dry white after dinner, and will be my mainstay throughout the summer afternoons and evenings. I love this stick and it will hopefully be a long time resident in the little town of my 'El Humidoro'. Jazzy packaging, a fit-for-all smoke, and a lovely consitent taste give this a 33 out of 35 from me.
Total out of 100: 88!
Apologies again, and thanks to many of you who's previous reviews I've taken inspiration from!
