I had a good day today, everything went well, and certain things happened which put me in a good mood, such a well spirited mood infact that that day deserved a cigar! After rummaging in the humi I picked out this one, not exactly a celebratory cigar, or infact one that's highly acclaimed. Another 'never tried' one for me; but that's good for me, I do like exploring these non-cuban brands, you never know what you might find in terms of smoking experience.
A reasonable looking smoke, I can tell straight away that it didn't cost much, bit of research tells me that you can get these from the Famous smoke shop for about $39.99 for a bundle of 20. So another budget review for me. I cut the cap and the wrapper begins to unravel at the top, oh dear. Luckily the band was relatively tight so I moved it up slightly and isolated the broken wrapper at the top from the rest. Thankfully this saved it.
I began lighting this rather fair looking stogie, much to my delight it was easy, slow rotation with a blow at the end to ensure the entire foot is glowing. One puff and a BIG burst of flavorsome smoke, just what I want from that first lug.
I was getting rich cedar like tones from this cigar, the flavors weren't flat like a conneticut, but rather ponderous, couldn't quite establish any but it was by no means 'boring'. Infact the overall flavor of this cigar reminded me of my first ever cigar 'Davila'. A woody, musky tone which was the same tone as my first smoking experience, quite a nice little personal joy.
This cigar did seem rather dry, but that gets no complaints from me as a drier cigar smokes better than their more moist brothers and sisters in my opinion. Lots of volumous smoke and easy drawing, just what I want to see.
The buildup of ash was flaky in appearance and white/grey, the first 15-20mm's looked weak and flaky, I would of thought that it could break off soon, but the ash held out for a surprisingly long time, probably a good 45-50mm's. Really surprising as it didn't look strong at all, never judge a book by its cover eh? The burn was also very even and consistent, I only had to even out the burn twice thanks to my cigar wrapper OCD, other than that I had no quarrels with this smoking experience.
Past halfway and beyond I got alot of cream complexes, not a flat boring tone at all, I did find it very hard to get some flavors, I think I was more focused on how it reminded me of my first ever cigar though.
The stub that was left of the cigar was getting more volumous smoke as it shrank smaller and smaller and I was quite enjoying this, however the more I lugged with quicker frequency, the spicier and hot it got, which was a shame because I do like it when the stub smokes lovely. I let it die the usual dignified death after a pretty good, not hugely remarkable, but it definately gave a good edge on a good day, afterall a good cigar definately compliments a good day I think.
The B Flavor : A couple of draws reminded me of an old video shop that used to be around the corner, it always had a damp, second hand smell to it, for some reason that translated into my taste buds, weird!
Overall: 7 - A valiant smoke for a budget stick, the broken wrapper was a bit of a nuisance and the ash and lower wrapper could of looked better, but on the smoking experience, very very pleasant. Just past halfway it did get a bit non-descript, but the finish made up for it. I would smoke this brand again! All I can do from here on in is form a subtle smile on my face and nod gently as I press the 'submit post' button. Goooood......good.
