It was a beautiful sunny day here in Chi-town. A perfect day to light up. This was my first take at a H. Upmann and definitely will not be my last.
H. Upmann Mag 46 tubed version
5.6x46
Box code: Unknown - purchased a 3 pack to sample. (Should have bought a box).
Construction: My first impression was that this cigar is first class. The presentation would make old Fidel himself drool. The wrapper had a nice shade of brown with minor veins. The cigar had a slightly firm draw and emitted plumes of smoke. Nothing pisses me off more than a cigar that does not surround me with clouds of smoke. The cigar required a few touch-ups and did need a re-light at one point. I would attribute that to its youth, since I only had it in my humi for one week prior to smoking. (Temptation got the best of me, yet again). Very nice. 4.5/5
Flavor: The pre-light draw had a taste of liquor, as if it had been dipped in cognac. Very surprising, yet nice. The first third of this smoke was woody, cedary with a touch of spice. Not much spice, just enough to let you know that it is there. The finish was long with that same touch of spice.
By mid-point, the cigar begins to increase with that spicy goodness while maintaining that woody, cedary taste. The flavors stay consistent throughout this smoke. The flavor is somewhat one dimensional, other than the increase in spice, but it is a wonderful flavor that I would certainly like to taste again. In the final third, the spiciness intensifies yet again. 4.5/5
Overall: This was a kick ass smoke after one week in humi. I can only imagine how divine they will be after some time. I am going to buy a box as soon as I can. As mi amigo de Mexico, Senor Coro, would say "These are muy bueno". 4.5/5
