La Vieja Havana Robusto

After waking up slightly hungover, I thought I wouldnt be smoking today, but after a few hours of recovery and a super roast dinner, seeing the climate outside, It's hard not to be tempted. Once more we have great weather in the UK, which adds to the experience every time, mild to no winds too, which means glorious white-neon-blue smoke being emphasised by the sunshine, fun stuff. I've gotten more than used to lighting cigars now, the usual tip of the flame rotation and blowing of the foot so the middle is lit, a couple of minutes of fiddling and we were away. I clipped the end of the cigar slightly higher so the drawing would be more intense due to the robusto gauge. I was after an easy smoke and didn't want to be (potentially) having a hard time with the larger gauges, although to be fair, once you've had a NUB then you can tackle anything I've found.
The first inch or so was producing some gentle cedar tones, the actual smoking rapport I had with this stick was very mild and gentle, I've found the beginning of non-cuban cigars to either be a whole lot of nothing, or a whole lot of harsh nothing, til the flavors kick in, but this was very remarkable for the first leg of the experience.
A super white ash was forming, which increased my 'cigar morale', it formed a nice strong lengthy ash before it gracefully fell off, to reveal even burning ash, oh even better!
The Great white ash
I don't know why, but the actual construction, size and gauge of this cigar seemed perfect. If you were to Google 'cigar' , you'd see a picture of this stick; The wrapper looked great, everything just looked textbook.

After the first tier of ash broke off, some great flavors were becoming apparent, first I was getting some bacon/meaty notes, then some really remarkable liquorice tastes, which lead onto some real sweet butter-cream draws which were real tasty. This part of the cigar was really soft and gentle, which was consistent with the beginning of the cigar, overall this was turning out to be a real treat, especially since I've never heard of the brand, wouldn't mind getting some more, or even buying a 10 pack.
Super burn with only one assist on the wrapper because it was a tiny little bit that was lagging, one blast of the flame sorted that. Other than that, no issues at all. Toward the end of the cigar, drawing was a real pleasure, huge smoke clouds were being blown into the summers day, leaving Mr B smiling at the all too familiar sight. I laid this to rest once the draws were becoming a little too hot n spicy, a sign to put a good cigar down.
Overall: 8.8
A real surprise this one; A great noncuban, Great construction, super ash formation, easy draw and a gentle but flavor filled cigar. A cigar that develops into a great experience, makes me love being a BOTL.
