  • Arturo Fuente Between the Lines

This barber pole figurado is based on the ever popular Short Story, one of the few NCs to gain respect from a lot of Cuban only smokers. Goodness knows how they achieve the effect but the two wrapper colours are seamless and the wrapper is smooth and free of veins. Having clipped the cap the cold draw tasted of hay and the draw was easy. I only lit the nipple and that was sufficient to get it going.

The first draw tasted of naturally sweet clean tobacco. I have no idea how old this is but there was no hint of ammonia or pepper.

Having the full width of the cigar going now and this is producing lots of smoke with a lovely clean tobacco flavour

    IMG_2256.jpg

That's the first third done and the smoke is starting to develop weak black coffee notes. Better ditch that label before I get charred paper notes as well!

Getting close to half way and the coffee notes are stronger but taking on a mineral edge which prompts me to purge it for the first time. I'm sitting in a cloud of smoke now and exhaling towards to my mini fan to keep it circulating.

The ash is holding well but its too dense to purge well, that mineral edge is becoming a little annoying

    IMG_2259.jpg

The ash has dropped and suddenly the whole cigar is a lot smoother. Into the final third and its getting a lovely nutty flavour instead of coffee

And so we're done. The burn was perfect with no relights or corrections required. I would definitely recommend this little cigar but maybe smoke it outdoors?

    Great review, thank you!
It is certainly a feat of rolling skill!

      Well done, muchacho!

Can?t go wrong with this fine stick or, for that matter, ANYTHING in the Hemmingway line.

Great review Peejay. I'm a fan of the SS. I'll have to seek these out.

Looks like a maduro stripe over a Connecticut wrapper.
Barber poles are quite the trend now.

Lovely looking stick. Tried a few short stories but never had this one. Will have to pick one up.
