Hello folks.
I 'found' those little sticks while browsing Gauntley's online store. After reading the description
I was eager to try them - that sounds like a nice cigar. So I jumped on my bike and with Mrs rode to said shop. To my great dissappointment I was informed that last tin was sold just few minutes before our arrival . Ordered them from my smoking shop (very good service again!) with few other bits and tried one as soon as they arrived. Was getting ready to review it that day, but had a glass of Kraken and couldn't really feel any taste of it - I thought that I just chose wrong drink.
So tonight I had it with cup of black coffee. Results I got are somewhat unexpected, but we'll get there soon.
Some dry details first
Ring Gauge : 38
Length : 4
Rolled In : Nicaragua
Filler : Nicaragua
Binder : Nicaragua
Wrapper : Cameroon
Construction and looks
Cigar was quite uneven - few hard spots, few soft spots... I guess it could be expected from hand made stick. Nice and slightly oily wrapper was peeling off in few places - not much, but noticed. Draw was nice and easy, smell was not bad, but kind of boring - not what I expected. Just totally plain tobacco, without any fireworks to it.
I lit it up with pictured match and finally started to relax after work. First few puffs delivered absolutely nothing - just plain taste of (not bad, but not highest quality) tobacco. Smoke output was quite good given size of the cigar, smell was nice, not harsh, not stinky, I'd say it was actually quite pleasant. With mixed feelings I got to second third.
As you can see, burn wasn't really perfect, but wouldn't say it was bad either. Ash stayed on nicely and was falling off in solid, big chunks.
Tasting notes finally started to change a bit. Got few tiny hints of earth and leather, but it was somewhat faded, distant. When I got past half of the stick some spices came into play and gave nice and fresh feel. Last third brought some (very little) woodiness and more spice. Good point - there was no harshness at all.
As I took my time, it lasted about 30-35 minutes. Now I must say - I really appreciate all work that some skilled craftsman put into rolling my cigars, but this particular one was nothing special. Maybe I expected too much (marketing worked ), but i could point out lack of character.
Final thoughts
I think my dissappointment might be a result of too high expectations. After all, it's just cheap stick, but since questions about some short/cheap smokes are quite common from what I noticed, thought it might be useful for folks looking for some new interesting cigars.
This one interesting certainly is not. It's not bad, I would smoke some more, I would recommend at least one to try, but with little more relaxed approach. I don't think time spent with little Oliva was wasted, but JLP Petit Cazadores could make this time better.
Cheers
Tom

The Serie G Maduro is a medium-bodied blend made with African Cameroon wrappers. The unique flavour notes of this wrapper are complimented by the natural richness of Nicaraguan Habano fillers. Medium strength with cedar and coffee notes. The Cameroon wrapper will allow this cigar to develop with age.
