Hope all is well with everyone, I thought I'd write this review as I haven't seen too many reviews of this nice stick and I haven't written a review in about 6 months - entirely down to the fact that I found that over the winter months cigars don't taste anywhere near as good as they do in the summer (I can only smoke outside unfortunately). But now the warmer - and hopefully sunnier - weather is with us I've got back into smoking my beloved puros.
Hope you enjoy the review!
The Trinidad Coloniales is an odd sized vitola but it's a size that I do love, it feels nice in the hand if you're looking for a good 45 minute smoke. This example was probably the best cigar I've ever had looks-wise, there's an absolutely beautiful silky tooth to the wrapper and an amazing honey aroma to it, honestly smelt of pure honey; on looks and smell alone this must get 10/10!
Cutting using a guillotine cutter the cigar yields quite an easy draw but this is something I don't mind as you can regulate the flow. I always think it's better to have a easier draw compared to one that's unbearably tight - the latter being something that I have found a number of times with Cuban cigars.
Upon lighting the first few puffs give a real sweet creamy, nutty flavour. Real notes of nuts like I'm eating hazelnut brittle and as it develops a lovely subtle spice tingle comes through, not harsh at all just keeping you alert to the flavours coming through.
Moving into the second third this stick builds on the previous nut flavour with a pleasant leather taste; nice marshmallow textured smoke too. The spice increases and combined with the background sweetness an interesting jalape?o flavour can be noticed. I'm hooked by this point.
Entering the final third and the cigar builds again and pushes on into an damp oaky flavour but once again with that sweet backdrop. The spice builds and spadefuls of earth are hurled at my tastebuds, occasionally giving way to that initial sweet nut flavour almost like a break in the clouds. It's a real complex smoke and there's more to it than it looks.
The burn throughout was almost razor sharp and didn't need any touch ups. I was very pleased that the Trinidad brand has lived up to its name again with this medium sized and medium to full bodied stick.
Great, complex flavours with no major complaints to the construction. I would certainly buy this one again and I can't wait to smoke my Fundadores that has been aging in my humidor for about a year now.
I would give the Trinidad Coloniales 93 points out of 100.
Thanks for reading!
