I don't know if there is a review etiquette for versus, but I had two different smokes last night while walking to and from a wine tasting 'date night' last night and decided that I would have a smoke on the way there as its a good hour or so. I couldnt decide what to take so I chose the Olivia Serie G Maduro Robusto and an Inka Secret Blend Azul Blue. Not one to resist temptation, I had one there one one back. I've mentioned previously that I'm not one for scoring by numbers, but as i'm no shakespeare so bear with me.
Appearance: Olivia G: little smoke, box pressed, maduro wrapper fairly matte, firm to the touch, tight filler
Inka Blue: Short and fat, very spongy, light clean wrapper loose looking filler, the more attractive in my opinion
Smoke:
I opted to toast before cutting, then purge before drawing on the back of a post I read on here.
Olivia G: very even and smooth burn, quite fast at about 45min to the end, but it is a little smoke and I smoked hard because I liked it. Very tasty and slightly aromatic giving off chocolate, nutty and earthy notes, remaining smooth and moreish throughout, I smoked right to the end and enjoyed every part. Quite tight draw with not huge amounts of smoke but not an issue to me personally.
Inka Blue: Again opting for pre light and purge. Initial draw gave off a very harsh and bitter taste, which I likened a bit to burnt plastic. about 3-4 puffs in I was ready to throw away but persevered as I know a cigar can change dramatically later on. At about the start of the 2nd third, it mellowed drastically and became a creamy smoke with lashings of smoke, partly due to the loose draw i?d imagine, by this point the damage was done however and wasn?t prepared to continue through and try to enjoy, i disagreed after about 10/15min.
Overall:
Olivia G: great little smoke with very tasty flavours and easy to smoke at any occasion that requires a shorter smoke. I can see it being great as my ?walk home from pub? cigar. At ?7.89 I will absolutely be buying again.
Inka Blue: Disappointing smoke, possibly a poor cigar, may try the madder wrapper or the Inka Red to make a proper decision, at ?6.99 I will be trying a few others first though.
