  • Partagas P1 (from 2009 jar) Review

    Dark wrapper
    Clean free draw

Initial spice, not harsh, smooth delicate elegant feel
Easy to retro hale, bags of smoke

After a few draws and underway, it's toned down with the spice. Very enjoyable. Feel like it's trying to kick my arse already! Defo gonna have to take this baby slowly. Paired to double disaronno & coke.

Deep n dark, but subtle with its way.
Again feels like a wolf in sheeps clothing...
Hard to put finger on flavours: deep dark depths,
But no harshness. An elegant mature smoke so far.
No wood pepper caramel or coffee, just a subtle spice With hidden power... Again I can feel it trying to get me
Another sip of beverage needed me thinks...

... A third in and still consistent to above

    Woops.... Let her go out...
Broke ash off and relight needed

    Thoughts now:
Changing a bit. Not as deep as before.
    Feeling lighter.

Approaching a good halfway. Not a lot going on.
The first half felt like the best part.
    I feel her slowly diminishing...
    Wow... Another relight needed!?!

Defo not as nice now... And an hour in.

    Another shot poured and mixed.

Puffing away now and feels like not a lot going on.

Nearing the band, and not a lot going on

Gonna finish her off and my drink. Smoking time: an hour 10 mins

    Overall score, for me: 85.
What let it down was the second half.
    Thanks all.

Nice review and brilliant alcohol pairing.

Interesting review, geneuine reviews aren't always about great or perfect cigars, it's jsut their the ones we are excited about & tend to make the effort to write down. Know some have really enjoyed these (Deano?) so I hope your next 24 will be far better.

Tried to keep it as honest as poss.
The first half was the better half.
This was part of a lovely bomb from Deano.
          Many thanks

Just to add if it had remained on form throughout then it would've scored an easy 90-95 for me...

Lovely job on the review, there's a good chance you will write it differently on a different day though, let's hope your more geared up for this smoke next time. If not let me know, I've wanted my first jar for a while....

Would you buy one and try again or not your type of cigar taste wise.

Very nice cigar to start. There's a time and a place for a cigar like this. I would smoke again, however would be nice to experience a better second half

Simon, from your pictures it looks like your problems started when you lost your long ash. It something I've occasionally noticed that after a tap off the tastes sensation can change, becoming lost or bitter .... and often is also when you have to make re-lights.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

I partially agree Arf, loss of ash almost always kickstarts a flavour change..... But for me it's almost always a positive thing.

Though I'm not saying that would always be the case.

I agree too, to an extent. It wouldn't have been a proper relight had the ash of stayed on. It was too long to stay on for a relight. Nothing worse than a partial relight. That's my opinion anyway.
