I seem to have lots part one of this review in the editing, I will try to reconstruct it now as best I can!
The cigar has a nice solid construction with a dark, lightly veined, slightly toothy wrapper. Build is firm a well packed, on punching it the draw is tight but seemed workable so I go for it. Once lit the draw seems a tad too tight with the punch, I persevere for a while and get the first impressions. Flavours are slightly perfumed spice with a grassy/hay background. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1413971694.738767.jpg
With the draw impeding progress I opt to straight cut at the shoulder. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1413971730.867551.jpg
From here the draw improves dramatically showing that a cigar of this density needed a straight cut to start with. The flavours are building in intensity if not developing in complexity. Spice becomes pepper and grassy hay retreats to the background. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1413971834.528143.jpg
A short journey to today's job insures with the cigar being cupped out of the window.
I arrived at the job having cupped this one in my hand out of the window of the truck. It survived without needing a relight for the 15 minute journey and puffed back to life to give a wet hay prominence. This wasn't a big hit with me but a purge seemed to clear that and bring it back to life with more of the spicy grassy flavours.
This cigar seemed to hit its peak of tastiness at the last inch or two with a pleasant turn towards the rich flavours I always look for and never seem to be able to pin down in words. Needless to say I am happy that I stuck with it.
I probably wouldn't get a box but if one were to present itself to me again it would certainly be an enjoyable smoke.
The scores:
Appearance & Construction /15
Appearance is very nice, a well presented cigar with a firm build. 14/15
Flavour & Aroma /25
The cigar started on two dimensions and though it fluctuated between spicy pepper and grassy hay it didn't develop much until the very last moments. 18/25
Draw & Burn /25
The burn was almost impeccable with no relight necessary even after a 15 minute rest. Draw was at first tight but when the cut was changed to a straight cut at the shoulder it was very good. 23/25
Overall Experience /35
A well constructed cigar with a near perfect burn and draw only let down by its lack of progress of flavour. For those that enjoy pepper and hay it would be a great smoke. The overall experience was good but not great. 28/35
83/100
