I wasn't originally planning a review, so apologies for the solitary, badly lit photo.
This "Lancero" is actually 7" x 40 rg with a Connecticut & Sun Grown Habano wrapper, Brazilian Mata Fina binder and a blend of Honduran & Nicaraguan filler.
I've had this sitting in the humidor for about a month now and finally had the time & weather to enjoy it.
The wrapper is quite dark, almost Maduro, with a slightly mottled appearance and a sweet, almost bitter chocolate scent.
The pre-light draw was unsurprisingly sweet with a biscuity (malted milk?) flavour.
First Third
This thing kicks out massive clouds of thick, white smoke, despite the fact that there's little in the way of resistance on the draw.
Flavour is predominantly white pepper & a woodiness that lingers at the back of the throat. There's also a touch of graphite, similar to licking the lead of a pencil.
The dense light grey ash fell at close to 2 inches and at close to an inch thereafter.
Second Third
More of the same, but with a little sweetness coming through in bursts and the mineral is dominant in the middle of my tongue.
It's still kicking out tons of smoke and the burn is relentless and very even despite the fact that I'm having to take small sips due to the obvious strength; this seems to have a lot of nicotine but the bourbon & coke I'm drinking is helping with that.
Final Third
Did I mention the perfect burn and voluminous quantities of smoke?
Yeah well, that has gone right out the window; it started tunnelling badly and I was finding it hard to get any smoke out of it.
I put up with this for 5 minutes before I decided it was time to call it a day.
Overall I have to say that I can't help but feel slightly underwhelmed by this stick; for all the early promise it showed little in the way of complexity and the final third did little to help its cause.
I only bought it as I wanted something to benchmark the Cohiba Lanceros against that I bought at the same time and I think (and hope!) that this will pale into insignificance in comparison.
