  • Cigar of the Month July 2014

I decided to smoke this today and start off this thread as they will start dropping through your letterboxes from Monday but I won't be smoking till next Saturday after this weekend. Lets try to keep this thread only about this cigar and relevant. I'll kick it off with my impressions and everyone can add theirs as they smoke it. Please don't name it even when you have opened the envelope with the band in it.

So what is it? Well that's a secret but it is a torpedo. The wrapper is a nice medium brown colour with a matte almost dusty finish and smelled faintly earthy. It felt very firm and was well packed as you can see in the photo.
Once cut the draw was light and also tasted earthy.
When I lit it I found that the draw tightened up with the heat and I had to take off another 5mm.
The burn was dead straight and the ash was firm. It produced plenty of smoke even at rest and the smoke had a distinctive smell like a Montecristo.
After the initial blast of pepper from ignition it settled down to a creamy nutty flavour with a hint of pepper on the finish.
After about half an inch a leather note joined the party and then at the inch point the pepper really came to the fore.
Interesting that it didn't remain a constant but popped in and out like your mum at a teenage party.
The flavours remained for me, nuts, leather and a hint of wood with that ever visiting pepper.
The ash dropped at about an inch and a half.
A word for the newbies. This is a two hour smoke so take your time, it is also quite strong in the nicotine department so sugar on the ready.
There you go chaps, its all yours, get smoking and typing.

I can't wait to get these, would you recommend popping it in the humi for a while or will they be good to go?

I'm never sure how long I should leave them after they've been posted.

ORIGINALLY POSTED BY EDAMSKI IN OTHER THREAD
Well I managed to find a window tonight to smoke it and here's my review

Smooth wrapper with some fine veins, firm construction.

Cedar and leather on the nose

Leather and grass on the pre-light draw with a hint of spice on the lips. Light draw.

                      Ripped cap though after cutting.

More of the same mild leather and cedar notes and hay (got to say after reading mo's review it's spot on with this) with a hint of spice on the after taste. Grassy taste lingers on the tongue.

Lovely gentle smoke and beautiful white ash

Hint of tobacco after the first 1/4 inch.

1 1/2 inch of ash then knocked off. Same flavours with the introduction of a creamy texture and richness with a very slight increase in spice

Hints of tea all the way through

The wrapper cracked by half way and affected the burn but not a massive amount.

Left it to go with nearly 2 inch left as the nicotine buzz got a bit much for me.

all in all a very enjoyable cigar with some good flavours. Medium strength and fairly simple.

I'm not expert but I'm gonna have a punt at Nicaraguan.

Sorry if it reads a tad awkward but I've just used my notes as the basis of my review.

                      Good work john thank you

I had wondered why people weren't issuing this thread to review the cigars.
