This very attractive cigar was a purchase based on one if Rasputin's reviews of the brother cigar the Pitbull Carlito. I'll be honest I bought one of each based on its looks in the main.

The cigar is billed as having a Maduro cap, something I'm not familiar with. The entire cigar is a Maduro colour and there is no discern able difference between cap and the rest of the wrapper.
Build is very good with a perfect ratio of weight to density. Looks are also beautiful.

The wrapper has a lovely sweet smell, nothing artificial or sickly but a naturally sweet Maduro wrapper, it also has a strong tobacco smell that I usually expect to find in a Cuban Maduro which was a pleasant surprise. I punch cut this one and am glad of it as the pre light draw is free flowing with just the right amount if resistance coming from the filler density not the small punch hole. Flavours of the sweet wrapper are joined with a woody spicyness on the pre light draw, there are hints of earthiness but not strong, similarly there is subtle leather. The wrapper taste in the mouth is salty and leathery in contrast to the sweet scent.

Upon lighting I took great care to toast evenly after Rasputin's warning of an uneven burn which helped but didn't stop the burn issue.

The taste of the lit cigar was hard for me to pin down but is extremely tasty. All of the aforementioned smells and tastes are still present in the lit stick but the smoke is definitely leaning towards the leathery side with some spice and earthy minerals. Sadly the burn is not improving, the burn is going badly wrong. For the purposes of this review I'll not attempt a retouch. It looks like it may self repair so to say.
Into the second third the burn is evening up as hoped.

The cigar profile is changing towards earthiness, the cedar is all but gone now as is the spicyness which is replaced with a chocolate taste. Its interesting that the wrapper smells sweet but tastes salty on the tongue, the saltiness is leaving and the sweetness is now the dominant profile. This is a truly lovely cigar with lots of flavour changes and tastes that I look for in a high quality cigar. I'm now half way through and I have say that this cigar is a beauty.

Although the flavours are sweet and chocolatey there is a mineral background upon retrohaleing the thin first puffs, clouds are a little painful to try this with but I find that with all cigars.

Into the last third I have what I feel is the best part if the cigar, rich with sweet and savoury oils and full of genuinely delicious tastes that are leaning heavily towards the chocolate box! Construction has remained impeccable throughout and the cigar is in as good shape now as before lighting.

Build /15
The build of this cigar is very good, if not for the bun issues I would give it full marks. Beautiful to look at and constructed carefully to give the perfect draw. 14/15

Flavour /25
From the pre punch scent through to cold draw and all though the cigar the flavours evolved giving layers right to the end. Even now as I summarise the flavour is chancing to cedar with stacks of chocolate. Only one profile is unwanted which is a slight mineral taste that isn't my favourite however on reflection it brings a certain balance to it as a whole. 24/25

Smoking Characteristics /25
The cigar lit well but had burn issues in the first third, while this didn't retract from the pleasure and did fix itself I have to deduct some points. Draw was lovely and it never came close to going out at any time. 23/25

Overall /35
Without doubt one of the nicer smokes I have had to date with so many interesting and pleasant layers. A lovely draw and beautiful presentation give this cigar everything needed to make my decision to buy a box a thing if certainty. Currently with about 1cm to go before the band/woollen ribbon I am struggling to let it go, only the powerful nicotine hit is making this possible. I give the cigar a whopping 34/35

Is the powerful nicotine hit because you punch the cigar? or do some sticks just have that big hit regardless? Have read this makes a difference but have never experimented to test out the theory as I always use a blade cutter

I've never experienced that and I often use a punch for larger gauges.

I've not heard of that either, I'd say these are strong in the nicotine department but it only hit near the end which would make sense as the oils build in the tobacco in the shoulder end all through the smoke so when you get to that stage each puff is stronger.
This cigar is highly recommended, I'm getting a box soon.

Tar can build up around a punch cut.... Jizzbo had a great picture of it happening.
