When I first saw Aaron with one of these I just had to try it. America has a long history of growing tobacco but apart from Cigar.com's American Label there doesn't appear to be any wholly American cigars. So here we are, George has created his first range of three, a coronas gorda, this robusto and a toros grandes. This robusto comes in at 4.7" x52 and the Connecticut wrapper is a rich caramel colour. It was firmly packed with a cute little pigtail cap.
Sniffing the wrapper gave me nothing but a faint tobacco smell but once I beheaded it I was greeted by a smokey chipotle smell with a slight pepperiness that tickled my nose. I had to recheck the description, no smoked tobaccos listed but there it was. The cold draw was very easy and had the same flavours but less intense.
Once lit she produced plenty of smoke and after the initial ignition the flavour was very mild indeed. There was nothing distinctive, just a fresh taste with a smokey finish. Pleasant but nothing special.
After the first inch things began to pick up. The flavour became creamy with a delicate nuttiness.
The burn went a bit awry with a serious side canoe that needed correcting after the first third.
From the halfway mark it got seriously nutty and smooth and could be favourably compared with an aged Choix Supreme. There was no pepper at all and no need to purge.
If I hadn't had to do a school run I would have nubbed this beauty.
I almost forgot to mention the cheeky band, remind you of anything?
