  • Don Pepin Garcia Blue lancero

Lanceros do seem to be trending at the moment so while my Cohiba gently rests I decided to try this offering from Don Pepin Garcia. This lancero measures in at 7.5" x38 and the Ecuadorian wrapper appears to be a Colorado Maduro and has a nice matte finish. The binder and filler are from Nicaragua. This lancero was rated at number 8 in CA's top 25 cigars of the year 2008 and scored 93.
Overall this was a very nice looking cigar and Mrs PJ thought it looked classier than the usual fat boys. It had just the right amount of spring and a sweet tobacco scent but I forgot to savour the cold draw which was perfect.
It lit easily and was soon producing plenty of smoke with a roasted pecan flavour with just a tiny hint of pepper on the finish. The burn was perfect as you can see. As it progressed some caramel notes became apparent too. The big revelation was when I took a draw after having eaten a piece of Tesco Chok-a-block Banoffee Bonanza chocolate, the roasted pecan flavour just exploded in combination with the chocolate. It was so distinct that I made my wife try it but what did she do? Inhaled the bloody lot, philistine!
This was an enjoyable cigar and a very attractive one at that.

I am without a doubt going to buy one of those PJ, it does look an elegant stick and wonderfully constructed by the look of it too. Just the sort of thing I'm keen to try more if.

Drew Estate do the L40 lancero which I'll be trying soon and Quai d'Orsay also do one if you want Cuban at a gentler price than the Cohiba.

I am a huge fan of the Pepin Blue line and would definitely prefer them to many of the so-called "go-to" Cubans and non-Cubans.

Quai dOrsay don't do a Laguito No.1, the closest they do is a Ninfa, which is their Panetalas which is a lovely cigar.

Also don't forget the Hoyo Du Dauphin (Laguito No.2), Hoyo Du Gormet (Palma), Por Larranaga Montecarlos (Delicosos), La Gloria Cubana Medaille d'Or No. 3 (Panatela Larga), La Gloria Cubana Medaille d'Or No. 4 (Palmita) and Punch Ninfas (Ninfa).

And then there's always the shorter slim gauge cigars, Laguito No.3, Carolina and Entreacto. Call me a nut but I'm mad for these slim cigars.... Love em!

I love slender sticks as well, having to manage them a lot more when smoking gives the cigars an added dimension and makes the experience feel much more rewarding
