Ok here goes, La Gloria Cubana Guilded Age Robusto
    5 x 52

    Origin:
    Honduras
    Wrapper Origin:
    Ecuadorian
    Wrapper Leaf:
    Sumatra

Very nice looking cigar with a nice colour and shine as well as great build quality. Pre draw is rich and leathery with strong tobacco taste. The band will be coming off but as its loose it can wait for now.

Wine pairing is a Wirra Wirra Church Block Ozzy Blend.

Its a good start although in the last few mins I've started to feel like I'm coming down with a throaghty cold maybe. I'll persevere anyway for now.

Started with a bad burn but good smoke and draw, tasting very leathery and strong tobacco taste not unlike PGD4 but with a more solid build. The cigar manages to be solid and weighty without being too tight on the draw, a quality I always like from a cigar.
10 mins in the burn has improved, the ash being dense on one side and gappy on the other explaining the canoed start.
At 20 mins the flavour and the stick become oily but pleasant, the stick easily holding up to my rough treatment.
Into the final third it becomes strong and slightly acidic, still a pleasant smoke with lots of tobacco and earthy flavour. As my first review I struggle to put into words what I'm experiencing. No hint of spice but lots of bitter yummyness I can only describe as leathery.

In the final few mins the cigar is giving so much nicotine that I'm pretty much done with it but it is with regret that I consign it to its grave in my chimnea.

Build is excellent, holding up to the end with no loss of wrapper even at the cap.
Farewell friend, we will meet again...

no wonder you got head from that cigar.......

just looking at it makes me get a nicotine rush. looks all black and oily. but apparently it was a pleasant oil leather, so i guess it's all well.

I suppose getting head means something else over there.

I was wondering that myself, it was good but not that good! I've always thought the B56 should come with a happy ending at the price but this cheap stick would really be a bargain with a free gobble included!

Good write up mate! Well put across, can be a struggle trying to convert what your tongue is telling you into words

Also, on the nicotine front can anyone answer me a question, is it something that builds throughout the smoke or is it something that just gets stronger towards the end when you feel it?

I'm just guessing here but I would think that all the oils that build up in the cigars unsmoked end contain nicotine. That would mean that you're getting the stuff that was in the tobacco as well as the stuff that's in the oil build up. Double whammy! That and the fact that you have been smoking a while and already had a hit means that it's both things right?

More nicotine = body trying to remove it.
Remember : nicotine is a drug. But it's still a poison

this is why it's more prevalent in NCs. if you smoke a cigar down half way, you shouldn't be getting so much tar and what not. but you'll get so much more nicotine than in one single Cuban cigar after 2 years or so of ageing.
Nicotine is built up so heavily in NCs nowadays that some (like LFD) relies on the nicotine to have it flavoured. This is why most people recommend smoking LFDs, MUWAT, etc within a year of buying them. otherwise, they just because bland and flavourless...

That's really interesting actually, I did wonder why so few NC's are good for ageing. I know some are, Ashton Padron and I think Opus X maybe but in the main everyone says to rest them then enjoy them. I find that rather a shame.
