  • Drew Estate Tabak Especiale Cafe con Leche

This is another of Drew Estate's infamous infused cigars this time with coffee, having enjoyed the Acid One and the Copper Label I decided to try another. It is a 5.5" x 54 torpedo with an unusual wrapper combining a Colorado leaf and a Maduro; to represent the caf? con leche of course, with an additional foot band. The tobacco is Nicaraguan and apparently it has a 'shaggy foot' to enable the flavours of the filler and binder to be tasted separately from the binder, yeah right! Anyone with that perceptive a palate who doesn't work in the industry is wasted.
To the cigar itself, the construction is perfect as with all DE cigars with visible but tight veins. The stick felt springy but there were no hollows. Despite being infused with coffee the wrapper gave off a sweet cocoa scent which was even more apparent on the head once cut. The unlit draw was very light but what gets you straight away is the sweetness of the wrapper. Pow! Straight in the gob with a mouthful of saccharin. Fortunately this passed pretty quickly and it was soon providing lots of very mild and pleasant smoke. The initial burn through the first Colorado section was well lopsided but it eventually straightened itself out without a touch up. After about five minutes the coffee flavour kicked in but it wasn't coffee in your mouth type flavour, more the aftertaste of coffee if you get what I mean. There were no transitions and it remained constant till the end.
The medium grey ash looked loose but it held on for a good inch and a half before it dropped.
The burn got a bit ragged again towards the end and it required a couple of relights but it lasted me a good 80 minutes and although not as good as the other two DEs that I have had was an okay smoke. Glad I bought one but probably wouldn't bother buying another.

thanks for the review, but for the life of me I can not understand the point of cigars like these there is so much flavour from tabbaco without having to infuse flavour into them..well with Cubans anyway

For the same reason they flavour coffee I assume though in this case it is probably to compete in the massive US market where the Cubans can't play.

There are some really good NC's, plus it's a whole new world to explore.

Oliva, CAO and Rocky Patel have been the best for me up to now. Alec Bradley too but probably a little less than the others..... There are some very premium NC brands that I don't have experience with but hear great things about, Padron, My Father and A. Fuente.

                          Then there's Dunhill and Davidoff.

If your address was in your profile I could send you an NC stick to try.
