Great review Marc & so glad this vitola affected you as it did me. I checked my own scores but I actually gave the ERDM & the Boli the same score. The reason is that although the Boli bursts in you face with flavour & great smoke(glad you had that too) the ERDM is at the other scale & is a delight in it's lightness & subtlness. Two great cigars for different occasions, the ERDM is great pre-prandial & the Boli is probably the smallest stick I would smoke post-pranadially, when circumstances mean I haven't the time for something larger or I am driving & can only have one drink. Interestingly I have given a higher mark to the ERDM '90, which surprises me. I would have thought on reflection this should have been similar to the Boli, rather than a 5yo ERDM but perhaps it was due to smoking it onboard - with a shandy.
I am also glad to hear someone not afraid of what people might think when they make honest comments. Some might wonder how such a small stick could possibly be your best smoke, well I have always said my best every cigar was a Monte No 5 from the 70's. I wish to hell it had been a No2 & I could have smoked it longer, it was just totally gorgous & although I felt I was getting a few strange looks when I reviewed it (no one actually made any comment at all) so what? If aren't being honest with our reviews, whats the point? Don't forget we are not testing in a lab, we are not judging stick A & B against C but experiencing it with the weather of the day, the company we had, the drink we matched it with & mood we were in.
The fact that a tiny stick can shake up your perception of cigars is surely the Havana we are all looking for. If you find Marc's claim hard to believe then all I can say is go out there & find one & try it yourself; they do come up at auction & there not cheap. The reason they reach a goood price is that they are appreciated by those who have tried them, so go a for a club split & dish out a couple each, I am sure you won't be disappointed but you sure as hell ain't having having one from me, coz I only have one left & it's mine, mine ...all mine.
So for me to settle this for myself, I'll make a note in my diary. I intended to smoke the last stick of my old '90 box, the label stained as it is with oils, this Christmas Day at our friends house in Belgium, in the morning with some vintage bubbly. I will smoke the last Boli after one of the meat courses (they have many small courses throughout the day) & given a direct comparrison between the two. A review will be duely made.Simon Bolivar: Liberator of Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru & Venezuela.

I totally agree that the ERdM offers a polar opposite simon, it's an extremely valid choice of small stick if only based on the fact that it's offers such a unique flavour IMO.
It will certainly warrant a box buy!Licky Licky before Sticky Sticky. - Puff Scotty 22/03/14
