  • Drew Estate Acid One

I know from the outset that this cigar won't appeal to the majority of forum members but Acid cigars are massive in the States so I was looking forward to this, their only non-aromatic cigar in the range. The filler is cured with five different red wines including a sangria. Pardon me? Sangria is a cocktail of wine, fruit and lemonade is it not? The wrapper is an aged Cameroon leaf with the colour of a Colorado Claro and a matte finish, it measures 5" x 54. The veins are visible but flush and the vitola is a torpedo with a 2" pigtail. Cute. The cigar is quite springy and soft at the cap and the wrapper gives off a pleasant mocha scent. Once cut the cold draw is very easy with a saccharin sweet flavour on the wrapper. Fortunately that passed quite quickly once lit and it produced lots of naturally sweet and mild smoke. Lighting was very easy; perhaps down to the soft foot, and it burned perfectly all the way to the end with no touch ups or relights required. The ash was a firm medium grey and didn't drop until half way done.
At the half way point I detected a hint of cappuccino in the flavour but never got any red wine notes. The last inch got a bit warm with a hint of pepper and a roasted almond taste and it lasted me 50 minutes but the overall experience was sweet, mild and creamy.
Would I buy this again? I'd have a box, I loved it.

Glad you liked it! The pigstail is certainly unique.

That looks more like dreadlocks than a pig tail. Heard a lot of mixed reviews about this but sounds like a good stick.

Another forum I frequent has nothing but disparaging comments for this line, a dissenting opinion is always interesting. How much is down to bad selection and how much is snobbery I wonder.

I have had a few Drew estate cigars, mainly the 'acid' line. They are nothing compared to a good Cuban, but nice when you feel like something a bit sweeter. I have found they are good for giving to non smoking mates that want to try a cigar. A couple of friends now smoke 'normal' cigars after trying a sweet acid.

I think more people would go for it if it had a better name, image sells, the cigar its self looks really good, its just the name

PeeJay have you bought an American Sampler pack? I have been looking at a few and you seemed to have tried a lot of the sticks that come in a couple of the samplers I have seen

I totally agree, NC branding can be very hit or miss for me. I hate branding that tries too hard to be dynamic and cool.... Kind of reminds me of when Homer Simpson changed his name to Max Power.

Acid makes me think of harsh and astringent. But reading the review its nothing like that.
