  • CAO MX2 Daggers

This is the second cigar I've had from CAO now and what with VTG's recommendation of their Gold Maduro too I think this is a brand to watch. MX2 quite simply stands for double maduro and this cigar has a Connecticut Broadleaf maduro wrapper and a Brazilian maduro binder wrapped around a multinational blend. Hand rolled and sold in tins of five they come in at a length of 4" and a ring gauge of 38 for a pleasant half hour smoke which is about how long it took me for a change, I am a slow smoker usually.
The wrapper is a dark matte maduro and has a rich chocolate scent and the foot has a hint of pepper. The stick is well packed with a little spring. A lot of American reviews talk of a poor draw on these but I found this to be quite the opposite. The draw was spot on with just a little resistance and the burn was perfect with no correction or relights required. The cold draw tasted mildly earthy.
There was no initial burst of pepper on lighting and I was soon enjoying plenty of smoke with a roasted nut flavour and a rich fruity smell.
The ash held on well for such a small stick and dropped in my lap at an inch and a half. A little pepper and a spice I couldn't put my finger on made an appearance in the second third and built up in strength to the end.
Previously my go to short smoke was the Quintero Purito but it has been deposed by this little beauty, and the tin is so cool once you've spent ten minutes removing the damned stickers.

Funny you mention the Quintero puritos...I just had the one you gave me (in between rain showers).
I'll be getting some of those, nice lil smoke just enough while I wait in the park before picking up my daughter from the nursery.

Sounds good, I've only tried a couple of maduros but liked the flavours. How much were these?

Not had any AF yet Sean so can't say. As you can see from the nub it was a damned good smoke but of course all our tastes are different.
