Short gap in the never ending rain so I popped out to try this stick that VTG sent me. At 4" long with a ring gauge of 38 its a half hour smoke but the bloody rain still beat me. Of all Nicaraguan construction the wrapper is of a matte finish and beautifully constructed with visible but not raised veins. It was well filled, firm with a slight spring to it. Didn't get much off the wrapper except the tobacco smell and when I cut it I found the draw was just right but the taste was just dry with no distinct flavour.
It lit very easily and burned dead straight for its short life. The initial taste was quite harsh, bitter and peppery, but it settled down quite quickly to a flavour that I just couldn't put my finger on. I even consulted the flavour wheel that MarkLondon gave me and the nearest I could come to it was burnt walnuts with a clean aftertaste.
This was my first Oliva and it was 'interesting'.
