Diplomaticos #3. 5 5/8 x42
I have been looking forward to this one, but I believe they have been discontinued so I may have to buy a stash if I like it.
Slightly rustic wrapper and spongy to the touch, dry smell is a bit earthy.... I'm punching this one because I'm a total punching convert (Thanks PeeJay!). Dry draw is out of this world, kind of like creamy macadamia and absolutely beautiful. The draw is also perfect.
Charring light gives off a whole meal toast aroma, first draw is mild but very smooth and buttery. The flavour starts to become stronger and more distinctive but hard to put a finger on what it is, it is very pleasant though. The smoke it's giving off is pleasing but not the very thick white I have had from a couple other sticks recently. The room note is simply beautiful and quite unlike other cigars I have had, I keep getting the butter, toast and nuts. At this point the burn is a little lop sided but not worrying yet.
Getting to a quarter in and the flavour is medium yet very beautiful and quite..... Elegant (in my head I know what I mean.) The only issue currently is the burn hasn't evened itself out. Near the end of the first quarter I get a short burst of mild pepper. The ash is much darker than other sticks I have had and dropped peacefully at pretty much exactly a quarter.
Once the ash dropped the flavours became a bit..... Brighter? Slightly more in your face, yet somehow still about medium in strength. Getting into the middle section the flavours remain fairly constant with the added pepper and the burn finally starts to even out and the smoke is now quite thick and satisfying. Oh wow, the flavour just kicked in with a very defined cappuccino hit.
Coming out of the first half and it goes out. A quick relight and the flavour does not even skip a beat. Getting into the second half and it's more spicy now, not a spice monster just pleasingly spicy.
Final third and some cedar and woody ness is coming in but again it's well balanced.
Last quarter and The smoke is getting fantastic now, the flavour is ramping right up along with the strength.. This is now (to me at least) a proper full bodied cigar.
It put itself out with a couple CM left and it seemed to be a good point to put it down.
This cigar went from 20:20 to 21:40 and was excellent throughout. This is right up there with the best I have smoked and I will definitely be picking up at least a handful of them, I will also give the No. 2 a test drive.
Very highly recommended if this single stick is anything to go by.
Pictures to follow.
