    Diplomaticos #3. 5 5/8 x42

I have been looking forward to this one, but I believe they have been discontinued so I may have to buy a stash if I like it.

Slightly rustic wrapper and spongy to the touch, dry smell is a bit earthy.... I'm punching this one because I'm a total punching convert (Thanks PeeJay!). Dry draw is out of this world, kind of like creamy macadamia and absolutely beautiful. The draw is also perfect.

Charring light gives off a whole meal toast aroma, first draw is mild but very smooth and buttery. The flavour starts to become stronger and more distinctive but hard to put a finger on what it is, it is very pleasant though. The smoke it's giving off is pleasing but not the very thick white I have had from a couple other sticks recently. The room note is simply beautiful and quite unlike other cigars I have had, I keep getting the butter, toast and nuts. At this point the burn is a little lop sided but not worrying yet.

Getting to a quarter in and the flavour is medium yet very beautiful and quite..... Elegant (in my head I know what I mean.) The only issue currently is the burn hasn't evened itself out. Near the end of the first quarter I get a short burst of mild pepper. The ash is much darker than other sticks I have had and dropped peacefully at pretty much exactly a quarter.

Once the ash dropped the flavours became a bit..... Brighter? Slightly more in your face, yet somehow still about medium in strength. Getting into the middle section the flavours remain fairly constant with the added pepper and the burn finally starts to even out and the smoke is now quite thick and satisfying. Oh wow, the flavour just kicked in with a very defined cappuccino hit.

Coming out of the first half and it goes out. A quick relight and the flavour does not even skip a beat. Getting into the second half and it's more spicy now, not a spice monster just pleasingly spicy.
Final third and some cedar and woody ness is coming in but again it's well balanced.

Last quarter and The smoke is getting fantastic now, the flavour is ramping right up along with the strength.. This is now (to me at least) a proper full bodied cigar.

It put itself out with a couple CM left and it seemed to be a good point to put it down.

This cigar went from 20:20 to 21:40 and was excellent throughout. This is right up there with the best I have smoked and I will definitely be picking up at least a handful of them, I will also give the No. 2 a test drive.

Very highly recommended if this single stick is anything to go by.

    Pictures to follow.

Emmm 2001 bit of a hit and miss then miss again year. Don't need to look hard to find aged dip's 3 as were discontinued in 2006 so with the choice I would rather have any year other than 2000,2001 and 1999. But again never had a 2001 dip so maybe they were a lucky marca.

After looking there is no way I would pay a premium for 2001

Edit: Fair do's rascal, I have heard a few people say 2000-2001 was a bit hit and miss.

Love the 1's and 4's. Never had a 3. Also probably wouldnt take the punt on 2001 ...unless I smoked one from the box and it was good. Have been some great smokes from 2001, but also plenty of poor ones.

Just smoked one of these and got the pepper and nuts (almonds). Smoke wasn't thick but had lots of flavour.

Nice review Marc, didn't rate this highly myself but I have just checked & the last & only recent one I smoked was 14th May & was from 2001, so that may account for it. Nothing wrong with the draw though, which is the most common complaint form that yr.
Yet again I have to agree with that wise young soul Monk's, that I find the No1's the best of the Dippy's, No2 aren't bad but I prefer the Monte's, (H.Uppman No2 too light for me). Dippy No4 makes a nice change from the very average Monte No4 but I haven't seen any for ages.

Great review Marc should really pick some of these up from Simon. God forbid I ever come across a 4 though haha

Actually the No5's were rather nice too but they disappeared before the No4's. Deletions, deletions.

I hate the no. 5. Both I've had have been a harsh no. 3

Yeah I raised it because I had a dippy and wanted to see what other people had thought of them.
