  • R&J Churchill

Here's a review I stuck on cigar-reviews.org a while ago-great website if you haven't already found it, have tried many new sticks i wouldn't usually have bothered with based on the reviews.

I've not got the most refined or experienced palate so did my best to come up with some opinions.

Hope it doesn't sound too pretentious!

Beautiful looking cigar, lovely reddish tinge to the wrapper, no large veins or marks, double banded, it certainly looks the part. Very smooth opening, little or no harsh flavours despite young age. It seems much more refined than the Short Churchill. Cedar and light spice aspects as the cigars opens up. Middle 3rd is medium bodied with toasted nutty flavours and a little sweetness. Not much in the way of honeyed tones, more woody, dark cocoa. Final third increases in strength and a few bitter notes appear. All in all a great cigar, smooth, refined, thoroughly relaxing. Paired with a Balvenie Doublewood.

Definitely a cigar on the list for me (although the recent drop in temperature with probably mean I'll have to wait until it starts getting warmer again)

I have tried the Short Churchill (which I liked) and also Wide and Petits (which I didn't) so I'm really not sure what I'll think of their older brother

The R&J was my first Churchill sized cigar, whaen oyu have only smoked pettic coronas & robustos, these seem enormours. Mangeged toi though & always have a few in the cave. R&J isn't my fav brand but they are consistant & the tubed versions are spot on. Good first review, well matched with a whisky I think.

you can say that again! damn short churchills. i would've gotten the RYJ Ceramic jars if only i didn't end up with 25 of the little things. but the churchills are somehow fantastic. they smell and taste the same on the cold draw but when lighting and dragging, it's a world of difference!
Spot on Tomo! Got a 15 set of the tubos underneath my computer as we speak. Bloody amazing!

Isn't it the R&J Churchill that Sir Winston himself used to smoke? I think this alone is reason enough to try one

I smoked a '98 tubo over the weekend. What a fabulous smoke! This was the first Havana for me way back in 1993.

So I hear.... But they couldn't have been called that then, they must have had another name first? Surely?

I'm fairly sure the Factory name for the Churchill size is Julieta No 2, although i don't know whether this size already existed or whether it was created for Sir Winston. By the by, his favourite champagne was Pol Roger-anybody tried pairing that with a cigar??

My brother talked about getting a couple of churchill sized cigars to smoke on christmas day and has asked me to look into it. Bearing in mind we are both novice cigar smokers is this length going to be too much do you reckon?

I have only smoked one but it did take a long time, it just seemed to keep going! It might be worth getting something a bit shorter unless you have a decent amount of time set aside to smoked it.

If you will need to smoke outdoors as well I would definitely say getting a shorter smoke it a better idea, I can't imagine it will be fun not feeling your fingers after the first 10 minutes!
