Some sticks from some years (especially 2012) smoke well young, some dont.
Some taste great after 2 years and poor after 5, go flat (often refered to as the 'sick period') and then come back after 7-10 years. This is one of the joys of collecting and smoking. It is also one of the frustrations when starting out.
An example is the R and J Duke (2008) I smoked recently. When young these were great but the one I had a few days ago was completely flat. I would describe it as 'really sick' and will revisit the box in 2 years. Sometimes you go back and a metamorphosis has taken place and they have been reborn into something new and wonderful.
Another example is the cohiba sig VI I had last night. Strong, ,fruity, creamy and just begining to be balanced. Imho this box will get better for at least the next 10 years and possibly much longer (20-30 years). It is also possible that I could smoke one next year and it will be flat.
