The Ashton Heritage Puro Sol Robusto is #10 on the 2008 Cigar Aficionado Top 25 list. This was my third time trying one. The first one's wrapper came apart as I smoked, and I was pressed for time during the second one. I had plenty of time for no. 3, and it didn't do a blooming rose impression. Unfortunately, there was nothing rosy about the taste either.
"Based on 100 point scale, but keep in mind that it is not the same 100 point scale that Cigar Aficionado uses. 70 possible points for taste, 20 possible points for burn, 5 possible points for appearance and 5 possible points for aroma."
Taste - From beginning to end, I thought the cigar was just okay. It had a one-dimensional, straightforward flavor of tobacco and leather. There was nothing bad about the flavor, but nothing that stood out. I'd call it a slightly stronger brother to a Padron 2000 or Fuente Don Carlos (good choices for an everyday cigar, but not what I consider top list contenders).55/70.
Burn - An even burn with minimal attention needed. 20/20
Appearance - It has a medium-dark oily wrapper and appears to be well constructed. 5/5
Aroma - Average. 3/5
Total - 83/100
Conclusion
Compared to the few other Top 25 cigars I smoked, this one just didn't seem special. I prefer Ashton's standard line.
