hey all,
with all the recent discussions and reviews of the bolivar GM! i thought i'd add my own review on this much loved cigar!
i was much fortunate to pick up 2 boxes plus nearly a full box of singles all dating from 2007, the year they came back into regular production, all be it in an exclusive la casa del habanos release! most of us who've had these all have been knocked for 6 by the strength at one point or another! tales of nausea and dizziness have all been told over the last few years by those who have smoked them! i rarely touch them, because of such recollections, but also because i love them and have been trying my best to age my collection (tonights count, i've 26 left)! it's been a while from i've had one, maybe a year or so, so i was interested to see how they're developing!
i'll keep this short and sweet..... 5 years has certainly mellowed them out! gone is the strength, they've now settled into a refined, creamy smoke! flavour ways, they are still typical bolivar, but softer! the one i smoked this evening was less bitter espresso and spice, more cocoa and earthy! the smoke was plentiful and creamy! it's character was very dessert like, think tiramisu! very much a '92-93' rated cigar!
in my experience, i've found that 2007 was very much a magical year for the bolivar blend! aside from the gold medals, any corona jnrs, royal coronas, petite coronas and corona extras i smoked from this year were fantastic cigars, amongst the very best i've experienced! so much so i became a die hard bolivar fan!
i seriously recommend, if possible, look out the GM's from this year (indeed, any bolivar from this year)!! reckon i'll leave it at least 6 months before i have another..... let's see if i can manage that!
all the best,
alex
