Don Pepin Garcia Blue
What is it?
i knew nothing about this brand until I started to look into it while smoking it. I was surprised to find out that this was a home made cigar from Little Havana... Miami, florida!
A Nicuraguan filler that features a corojo wrapper, size was 6x50.
It doesnt look to badly made, when pinched it had a firm feel with a very light spring to it. I personally like that in a cigar
What does it taste like?
It started off rather peppery and sour for the first few draws. Although I would possibly put it down to the can of my favourite tipple Red stripe I'd finished earlier clouding my palette. This dissapointed me slighty in that I was quite looking forward to a nice smoke. Or it may have just been a little strong to start.
I stuck at it and the next few draws it completely changed.
It pulled me in like a siren onto the rocks. What surprised me was it drifted into hot buttered toast, then smooth & creamy finishing with very
faint leather overtones which were perfectly understated to the extent that it left you guessing and wanting to go back and double check.
Normally I would scoff at such descriptions.
As I got past the first inch it developed into more of a woodier flavour and the finish tailed off slightly but still pleasant. It remained consistent like this to the end.
How strong is it?
This is medium strength cigar,
The draw?
Easy. An even burn throughout and the ash held it's own, quite a pleasant aroma from the standing smoke as well.
Final thoughts?
After the intial rejection it gave me, it took me by the hand and led me to the bedroom. 1 hour later I emerged with a smile.
A easy going pleasant smoke, something I would be happy to smoke again. I dont think it something to sit down over coffee or the likes with and
concentrate over but as something to smoke to while pottering round the garden it's ideal.
Would I bring it home and introduce it to my parents? Probably not, but I would sneak out the bedroom window once a month for a hour of fun.
I was thinking about scoring this a 6.5 out of 10 but given that it surprised me in the fact that it was made in Miami I'm willing to knock it up to a 7.0
