  • Montecristo No.5

This is my second attempt at a review, namely of the Montecristo No5. (nothing overly exciting ).

    Size:

    4" long x 40 ring gauge.

    Appearance: 8/10

    Firm, even shading. Colorado wrapper

    Construction: 6/10

Good resistance, the typical cuban draw.

The cigar went out after the 1st third, I was smoking slowly to try to avoid any harsness but I hit a couple of minor blockages (not sure if thats the right way to descirbe it ). At these points i resorted to torching the cigar until I could draw again . These were only minor and didnt detract from my overal smoking experience, in fact I nearly burnt my lips!

    Flavour: 8.5/10

I forgot to pre draw, doh! On lighting the cigar I could taste some quite strong peppery notes, this lasted right up til the first third. At this point flavours of milky coffee and some hints of vanilla emerged. I really didnt expect any sort of evolution in flavour (even basic ones) in a cigar of this size.

    Value: 8/10

At ?7.50 a stick this is is what you expect to pay for a Cuban cigar of this size. I think it represents good value for money i really enjoyed smoking it. I managed to get 55mins out of it.

    Overall: 8.5/10

Skirting around the minor plugs, this cigar really was a good short smoke. Decent flavour profiles, a lovely smoke on a warm summers evening.

      Nice review!
If you want a midget to look like a baby, don't put a cigar in his mouth.

Thanks for contributing! Can't say I've had a lot of the smaller Montes over the years knowing what number they actually are....! All taste good though

Well done Mr Manning. I like the Monte 5s.
