  • Chinchalero Picadillo

This is my first attempt at a review, namely of the budget nicaraguan cigar the Chinchalero Picadillo. Its going be short and sweet (to the point of having no real sentences ). This is intentional as at this point in my cigar tasting I have not got a clue what I am talking about.
    Well here goes:

    Size:

    4" long x 52 ring gauge.

    Appearance: 7/10

Firm, even shading. Couple of large veins on the wrapper and a un-even cap are the only negatives.

    Construction: 7/10

Initial tight draw, after 1st third still had resistance but began to smoke more easily. Straight even burn. Solid ash to the point where it seemed almost half what I was smoking was ash .

    Flavour: 7/10

Pre draw some minor grassy notes. On smoking earthy/ woody flavour, yet fairly one dimensional throughout the cigar.

    Value: 10/10

At ?2.99 a stick this is a very good value cigar that lasts for 30 - 45 mins. It also makes it cheaper than some European machine made crap.

    Overall: 8/10

The only issue for me was the draw on the 1st third. Yes the flavour was uninspiring, but it was not unpleasant. This surely is to be expected from a cigar with such a low price point, as it would be futile to seriously try to compare its flavour profile to premium NC's and Cubans.

Would I recommend? to someone on a budget or has not the time or inclination to think about there smoke. The answer is yes, I myself will revisit next time I have a smoking session with a friend lol.

Nice first review Manning. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, they sound similar to my experience with this cigar - not exactly inspiring, but by no means a bad cigar.

Keep them coming though. Try and use the review as a starting point, a foundation to build on. I often think that in amongst all the waffle that some of us write when reviewing cigars there comes across a feeling for the cigar. That way, even if we're talking out of our arses with regards to 'hints of this' or 'under-notes of that', there is a sense of what the cigar is like to smoke. Give it a go, it may not be the style for you, but it can be fun pretending to be the second coming of Oscar Wilde...

Nice review! I've only had one of the small mini torpedos? It was a good 5 years ago but remember that it was a decent little smoke!

Good review. I had one of these the other day, and like you I found it a bit flat and dull, though not unpleasant. IMO the Chinchalero novillo fuerte are better, and still quite cheap. They definitely beat a Hamlet or a Villiger any day!
If you want a midget to look like a baby, don't put a cigar in his mouth.

I have a box of the Maduro Novillo ageing in my tupperdor, at the price, for a cheap everyday smoke hard to beat. Apart from those duty free one you bring back from holidays
