    Cohiba Siglo IV

    Size - 143 x 46
    Smoke Time - 1 Hour 25 mins
    June 2008

Appearance: The wrapper was light-medium brown in colour, with a slightly rougher looking finish, than usually found in the siglo series which are in general always very smooth looking. Some small light veins with the odd large vein, slight damage to the foot due to my rough handling and age but overall an example of a well rolled cigar with an amazing sweet aroma.

Construction: Perfect construction, firm with a very slight amount of sponginess when compressed. There were no tight spots anywhere throughout the whole length of the stick and it burnt even, only going off a little once when i let it rest for a few minutes, which eventually corrected itself with no relights required. The draw was superb from start to finish never to lose or tight, and produced lots of smooth creamy smoke.

Flavour: Pre-draw it was tasting, a little earthy with some dry fruit, no bitterness but lots of sweet grass and hay coming through too, with hints of wood and honey in the background. Just this was telling me, i may be in for a sweet and flavourful smoke indeed.
Right from the off i was getting a superb draw with lots of creamy mellow smoke and lots of flavour. From the start of the first third it was bursting with great flavour, i was experiencing lots of sweet grass, with earthy and honey notes and the odd tone of creamy coffee coming through now and then, it was delightful. Towards the end of the first third, still creamy but lots more toasted coffee beans and woody notes, then a surprising hit of fruity red wine, which for me was one of the highlights of the cigar.
The second third was still giving me a variety of great flavours, very sweet with some vanilla and cocoa coming through this time, and in the background
there was still a touch of sweet grass too. The flavour shifted again, with hits of dry fruit, coffee and honey with a nice twist of deep fruity flavours like cherry and blackberry with a pinch of liquorice too, this for me was so unexpected and i was drawing faster and faster hoping this taste would stay there, which lasted a short while towards the final third.
I'm into the last third of the stick now, and it was still producing many different flavours, lots of sweetness with honey and caramel tones with slight overtones of coffee beans, it was also quite woody from time to time with some fruit and a very mild nutty taste now and then. Coming to the end of what was an excellent smoke, there was just enough time for one more twist, and there it came, a very intense sweet fruit flavour with a fabulous taste of aniseed, liquorice on exhale all of which were nice and smooth with no bitterness at all, which for me was a very pleasing end to the smoke indeed.

Overall: For me this cigar was excellent in every way, some good age and it produced a wide variety of flavours that came across in a smooth and creamy fashion with no bitterness at all and it was rolled and constructed almost perfectly. There were some great highlights throughout the stick and it had a good draw from start to finish and held a firm greyish, white ash. It was a flavourful medium bodied cigar that produced lots of smoke, and wonderful aromas of toasted coffee and sweet grass that filled the room to my delight. Although the Cohiba's can be expensive, this one was worth every penny and will be hard to beat imo, i will be buying more of these for my humi, as it is one cigar that i simply could not go without after this amazing experience....

    Thanks SmokinE

Excellent review, the IV is a gem that I rarely smoke but do enjioy it on the special occasions I do. This one had just the right amount of age on it.

I've got a box of '09's that I'm trying to be good with and only smoke one every 6 months so I can see how they age...
