Further to a recent and overly kind Shuckins bomb, which left me with no choice but to decant my tiny existent cigar collection from my miserly humidor into some appropriately large Tupperware, the beautiful collection of non-Cubans have beckoned me daily.
Today I thought I’d start off small choosing the smallest cigar in the pack - a Tatuaje Noellas ‘Brown Label’ which is roughly a PC size, to ease me in carefully to this tempting world of jazzy bands and funky smokes.
I thought that this unassuming little stick was going to lever me in easily and then PAW! The first thing that hit me was the power held in this tiny package, like a smack in the face!
Cigar: Tatuaje Noellas ‘Brown Label’
Drink: Whiskey and coke
Sounds: Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks - Mirror traffic (added to my collection by my Pavement loving mate)
Firstly the construction of this cigar was flawless - beautifully cylindrical and nicely packed. The draw was smooth and airy and the burn Impeccable: this was a one match cigar.
The first thing that struck me about this cigar was that I was going to have to change my smoking style; the first blow through the nose was like snorting bombay mix off the back of a camel backwards. I soon learned to lessen my exhaling and to take it easy. The flavor and spice in the first third and some way into the second was full and rich with lots of nuance.
The cigar then pulled back into a really easy and delicate smoke from that point to the end, leaving a vey relaxing, chilled and flavorsome experience. This cigar wakes you up, hits you around (in the nicest possible way) then steps back, transforming into a relaxing smoke. The smoke it’s self had a beautiful sweet aroma.
This was yet another cigar that I didn’t want to put down at the end.
So what have I learned? That Cuba is NOT the last word in quality smokes! nice try boys but WHATEVER !
