Cohiba Siglo IV
Size: 143 x 46 ? Corona Gorda
Smoke time: 1hour 15mins Source: Bambini?s Cigar Hospital.
This is one of the cigars, age unknown that Bambs received in a sad, dried-out sickly condition and set about patiently reviving. All I can say .... Leigh matey, on this smoking ? Brilliant job!
Appearance: Beautifully rolled and perfectly cylindrical with a rough textured, honey brown wrapper with medium to prominent veins and finished triple cap.
Construction: Nicely balanced and firmly packed with little ?pinch?. The ?pinch? did however soften and become more giving during the smoke. Pre-draw was perfect and the smoking draw spot-on. The burn started straight and never deviated. The ash was crisp and compact and needed little in the way of tapping off. No relights, no corrections.
Flavour: The pre-draw aroma was admittedly light, barnyard with a note of blackberry. Right from kick-off I thought this is one beautiful tasteing cigar, soft, sweet ice cream soda and light lemon sorbet released over clean tasting wood. A little further in and I began to pick up some delicious dull, sour berries. Into the third and the flavour base was joined by a subtle dry/sweet almost winelike taste that reminded me of Muscat grapes. The smoke in slow exhale went from deliciously dry to deliciously sweet in one smooth vibrant flow. Absolutely amazing. Into the second third and the smoke became a little dryer and woodier yet still retaining the sharp, clean sweet/sour base. Once, and just once, I thought I detected something beanlike but it didn?t return. Moving towards halfway and some light notes of dark chocolate began to appear, and the mix of flavour became exquisite, almost like smoking a Black Forest Gateau. The final third was pretty much like the second, beautifully pronounced, slightly liqueur like and with a sharp sweet kick at the end of each exhale. At the very final knockings I did pick out a little pepper in retro-hale.
Overall: A wonderful cigar, and so far, my best smoke of 2012. Great full flavour tastes on a medium body, very relaxing and most certainly a smoke I WANT to try again, both for the tastes that I got and to see if another Siglo IV might deliver more of the heavier cocoa, pepper and bean tastes I had expected, but which I didn?t experience.
Well done Bambini!
