These have been recently released in the UK, at the back end of 2011 i think. These cigars are hand made in Nicaragua using the finest Nicaraguan filler & binder leafs, all wrapped in a Ecudorian grown Habano (seed) wrapper.
Country of Origin: Nicargaua (Rolled by Brother Garcia)
Wrapper: (Habano Seed) Ecuador
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua
Length: 5 1/8″
Ring: 42
Construction & Cut
A well made cigar looking cigar, some thick veins on the slightly oily wrapper. Made using a Ecuadoran wrapper so i am hoping for a little spice, even though its a Habano 2000 seed. The cigar looks like the filler is nice and even, no big gaps and the humidity seems perfect. The cut reveleaved the same even packing and the draw, wow the draw was as easy as this Sunday afternoon. The pre light revelead very little, the aroma of the cigar is of woods and a slight nicaraguan spice tang(very slight). She toasted nicely with a few flicks of the jet flame and the aroma was instantly enjoyable. Those first few draws reminded me of a lovely creamy Hoyo with some subtle spices and woods.
1st Half
Starts off a little light, those creamy flavours i tasted on the first draws carry though this first half. Sweet woods and some subtle earth on the finish. As i made my through the first half the cigar started coming to life a little, some light spice on the back of the pallet made for a promising experience. All the while i delicate part vanilla bean, part herby edge can be detected to be growing. The sweet woods and cream remained on the draw and reminded me a little of a Punch Coronation with slightly bigger balls. A great start, with the burn suffering a little side burn but this soon all went wrong. Even with the side burn the flavours still remained cool and smooth
2nd Half
By the halfway point it all went wrong, the cigar seemed to plug it self up. A good 1/4″ went rock hard and i struggled to draw, tried quickly drawing to bring life back. Almost cut it off, but managed to tease life back into it. I had this issue with the H Upmann Royal Robusto in Cuba and few did with the Cohiba 1966. But once i got it going again the cigar continued on it Dynamic journey. The gentle herby edge i could detect at the end of the 1/2 really came to the front. The draw was still packed full of creamy sweet woods and the finish was earthy with those wonderful Herby notes riding around. Flavours kept changing and growing, i didnt want it to end. A few more issues with it side burning, but again no problems with the flavours or the smoke getting to bitter. Some salty notes on the finish, again added more to the smoke. Even in the dying draws this cigars is still giving up new and interesting flavours, that might be my burning fingers though. Some more bitter woods on the draw and the finish has become more salty and herby. Just cant let her go to be honest, she just keeps on giving.
Conclusions
A great smoke, some lovely dynamic flavours that kept me enjoying every draw of this cigar. The issue with the plug in the middle was a minor inconvenience and a little confusing, no draw issues until that point. Expanded leaf maybe blocking the draw. The flavours do scream Habano to me, no fusty, ammonia edge to the cigar at all. The creamy draw with the woody, earthy flavours tick all my boxes and the herby/beany finish in the second half makes for a great smoke. I wouldnt call this medium to full, more medium but it does carry a little nicotine. In my opion it needs a little spice and maybe some more power but still, i can see this being to many people pallets. So if you like your Punch, Ramon Allones & Arturo Fuentes give these a try at least. Not to expensive even though these are at the higher end of the ?New World Cigars? prices (?10 RRP per stick).
