Fresh back from smoking a Bolivar Bonitas I've decided to jot down a few notes from my personal experience.
I purchased the Bonitas from C.Gars Ltd. It arrived well packaged in prime condition.
The cigar is square in section, firmly rolled and well constructed but with a slightly rough but even coloured wrapper.
I noticed pre-lit aromas of leather and a slightly malted top note.
On lighting I found the draw of easy to medium resistance.
For the first inch the cigar tasted slightly leathery but smooth. Smooth like a fine piece of waxed, antique furniture. The taste hit the middle of my tongue and wasn't as tippy as the Trinidad Reyes I last smoked.
Initially the burn was slightly uneven, maybe my fault when lighting.
I found the start to be slightly flat but the flavour developed faster than I anticipated and it was most welcome. It was so quick it took me by surprise, kicking and levelling out after about an inch and a half.
A deeper, more complex taste enveloped me and spun my mind to think about the actual soil the plant was grown in. The taste weaved mid notes of earthy coffee and leather highlighted with an almost floral, violet note on the exhale. The flavour rolled off the middle of my tongue and I actually started to grin.
I sat back, closed my eyes and started to really enjoy this fine cigar. As I smoked, the cigar lulled me into malted milk biscuit bliss with hints of dark black coffee. The smoke was smooth and cool.
Towards the last third of the cigar the smoke heated up slightly. My lips started to tingle and where again smacked with a more energising leather flavour.
The end was soon upon me and left me with pondering thoughts. I found this cigar not as satisfying as my previous sticks. It is a nice smoke but for me a more doing cigar and not a kick back and relax smoke.
If I were to choose an activity to accompany me whilst smoking the Bolivar Bonita it was be browsing collections of muskets and flintlocks in the wooden hall of a stately home.
Overall, for me the Bolivar Bonita is an upright smoke of the finest calibre.
