Well its Sunday and most lucky people get to go back to work tomorrow but as im unemployed to the middle of feb ive got nothing better to do atm then write another review.
So i goto my humi and i see a montie 2 thats been sat in here for the best part of three years and im thinking i got rid of my last montie 4 yesterday i have a few dip 2s coming on mon/tues so i might aswell get rid of this one to make space.
Now for me the montie2 is not a cigar i normally pick up between dip and upmann2s which i normally go for ive always found the montie to be a little lacking in flavour and quite random in its construction as in very random.
Construction (the big question) - This one had me worried it was very firmly packed so i got the feeling that yet again this would be plugged but no for once it was a very nice draw just enough resistance. Now the wrapper appearance wasnt so nice it looked like it was beaten half to death with the ugly stick the wrapper was like fine sand paper with wrinkles and a nice green spot half way down the stick.
Pre light - Cedar wood and dry tea.
Drink Decision - With the tea flavour i got from the prelight i decided to go with a nice glass of light ice tea (no lemon) with a double shot of sweet grey goose vodka its complementing the flavours well.
1/3 - Immediately the smoke started semi dry at a medium body with plenty of cedar, tea, leather and pepper with a finish that reminds me of roasted unsalted peanuts(i hate peanuts btw)
Im enjoying it at this point its a nice smoke with nice flavours the burn is a bit wavy but its self correcting nicely the only gripe at this point is the smoke is no where near as smooth or creamy as i remember previous montie 2s to be.
2/3 - So far so much of the same the flavours havnt changed much the smokes got a little more peppery its taken on a slight bitter chocolate taste and the ash is a nice grey/white colour and ill add the ash is starting to look a bit like a limp dick unfortunately the burn has gone wonky and is no longer auto correcting so thats had to be touched up and seems to be burning well again.
3/3 - Well its upped its body to medium-full now the light cedar and tea flavours have dissapeared to be replaced with a dark choc, leather, hard wood and pepper taste with the peanut finish the burns refusing to stay straight and the draws starting to tighten up so its going to be recut and ill see if its worth going another inch.
After a cut and a relight - Well i found out why it was burning badly after tapping the ash off i could clearly see only half of it was lit so that was touched up and i took 1/2inch off the top but the draws become only slightly better.
3/3 MK2- Most of the flavours have gone now its developed a very dry smoke with medium-full body and its now rather bitter not bitter choc just bitter bitter so im prolly going to give it 5 more mins and dump it.
All in all yeah its a good smoke while it lasts and i would be a happy camper if someone offered me one but would i go out and buy another one no i wouldnt because for everything the montie 2 can give the dip 2 can give better and from my experiance they are alot more reliable construction and consistency wise too boot.
