Well its finally friday and its been a awful week so my very VERY bad temper has been running very thin lately.
But anyway today i felt like sitting down to a nice smoke and hopefully try and relax instead of being on edge so i pull a nice Punch Petite Punch out of my humi cut it with my nice new shiny cigar scissors and take a little pre light draw and i instantly think of the Sargent from FMJ when he says something about a golf ball and a garden hose as tight as a ticks arse but i think the plugs just in the very tip so i light up and try and smoke through it........NOPE 5 mins of forceful sucking (thats what she said) and its still tight (this is starting to sound like a bad porno) so out the window with you.
There was swearing after this.
Now my temper is running high and a goto my BRC humidor a home-made wine cooler humi dedicated to my "goto" cigar when things get bad its got one cigar in it the Bolivar Royal Corona also known before 73 as the Price Charles. In the last 3 years i must have picked up over 40 boxs and multiple trays of singles of these ranging from original PCs to newer RCs.
Now to me these have always been my goto cigar for one very good reason they are not amazing christ the construction is a bit hit and miss even for the old boxs of PCs but they have always had a taste i enjoyed i dont need to think about them quietly i can sit among friends talk play cards and just enjoy them and for that i will choose them over everything els every time a sig 6 grand reserva or a 1966 might be amazing but they are not average.
So enough waffling onto the cigar now im pretty sure this one was from a NOV 05 box i picked up in a small tobacconist in spain a few years back the shops nothing special but its where every local goes the staff are very polite and after soo many years they know me so the discount and the ability to split a 500 euro note is nice not even the banks around there do that.
I drunk a club soda with this with ice and a slice of lemon.
Construction - Its a bolivar it was slightly box pressed the wrapper was a nice shade of brown with some oily sheen and a great smell to it while i didnt take a photo of it (iphone dosnt do close ups) but the cap was very good.
Aroma - Its a tobacco chocolate bar thats pretty much it cant think of a better way to put it.
DRAW - IT WAS GOOD VERY GOOD RESISTANCE BUT NOT TOO MUCH.
Enough caps - ok
Burn - It was ok a little wonky up untill the 3/3 but not political like some.
1+2/3 - Copious amounts of smoke though a little dry if that makes sense as usual a wonderful strong dark chocolate/espresso taste with hints of leather, wood and just a hint of bitter cherrys.
3/3 - All the subtle flavours have gone its finishing with a knock out punch of dry but earthy smoke with the flavours of very dark 85%+ coco chocolate and leather and wood. Now i normally stop at the band but this time i took it off so i went a little further than normal and before i know it there was almost none left but it hadnt got harsh or hot at all it just staid the same great bolivar taste.
All in all i liked it you may not but i do suggest you pick up at least a single to try best of all it dosnt need long to be great ive smoked some 3 months out of a box and they have been as good as 35 year aged PCs.
I will upload pictures in a few mins and if you have mad it this far without your eyeballs bleeding from my spelling and grammar well good on you i challenge you to read my next review which will prolly be either a Boli Gold Medal or a El Ray De Mundo Longsdale.
