Good evening all,
I've returned from England to my home in Wales after seven weeks of solid working, fun!
Today has been a fairly cold day, a nice electric breeze with the Sun shining high in the sky. So, my brother is out and my parents are in work... so the question is, what shall I smoke?! Well, a non-tubed single Magnum 46 from 2009 (according to the seller) of course!
This stick is my first ever Magnum and my second H Upmann smoke after having the somewhat disappointing Coronas Junior (I do not recommend these).
Pre-light, a very sturdy construction, the draw is a little restrictive, not to my liking and a decent aroma.
First third: Straight away there is lashings of cream, just the right amount of smoke (same as the VR Famosos) and a fantastic burn. The odd hint of cocoa is present but primarily this cigar produced lashings upon lashings of cream. I've read in reviews that pepper is a common flavour when smoking a Mag 46 but not in my case, the first third was pure cream with the odd wack of cocoa. Very, very enjoyable.
Second third: Again, cream is present but the creaminess of the cigar has subsided for cocoa. I read on cigar-reviews that chocolate is present in a lot of these sticks, I was very sceptical of this but I swear to you that as I paused every five minutes of so, all I could taste in my mouth was milky chocolate, it was extremely distinctive. Overall, the second third presented me with lots of silky chocolate/cocoa flavours with the odd hit of cream.
Final third: Still cocoa, cream is still there lurking in the background but the cigar became very tangy, not a feature I've ever had with a cigar but I really enjoyed the tangy flavours!
Overall, this stick had so much cream you could eat it. I kept saying to myself "so, so good", I can't rate the cigar I just smoked enough. During the final stages of the second third I was contemplating about scoring this cigar a solid 90 but the tangy nature that surprised me during the final third really bumped the score up. Is this stick the best I've ever had? No, it's not but crickey it's certainly one of the finest smokes I've had to date.
Very pleased with this cigar, it would fit in perfectly after a Christmas turkey with veg and gravy washed down with a brandy or whiskey on the rocks in front of a log fire.
Sadly, no pictures as I left my USB wire for my camera in my flat in Bristol!
Thanks for reading.
Frederick.
