Good evening all,
today was a terribly boring day at University, waking up at 6 am, a quick breakfast whilst getting changed and off to lecture based on how construction materials "can harm the environment", if anybody on here is eco-friendly then you'd probably love it... though at 9 am, it's a lot to take in
I thought to myself, I quite fancy a cigar tonight to unwind whilst reviewing some work whilst listening to some ambient trance.
So, I opened my humidor and a Montecristo no.4 (2009) caught my eye. I've never smoked one of these cigars but I have smoked a Monte in the past.
Pre-light - A lovely milk chocolate colour, nice strong aromas and a stern construction with a decent draw.
First third - As soon as I lit the cigar I was greeted to "typical" Montecristo flavours, very leathery with a fair amount of smoke. After the first few puffs the flavours became fantastic. Lots of coffee, a hell of a lot of coffee with regular hits of cream. I want to keep the first third brief because it the cigar was very consistent with its flavours. To summarise the first third, lashings of creamy coffee, a perfect burn with just the right amount of smoke (not too little or too much).
Second third - Again, lots of coffee but not as much cream. The coffee flavour remained and a bit of Earth kicked in, the Earthiness somewhat replaced the cream but irregular sparks of cream did crop up every few puffs. The flavour did intensify and the cigar did start to create a kick in the back of my throat. Again, a lovely burn and the quantity of smoke was just right.
Final third - The cream has almost gone, burn is still fantastic and still the coffee remains. The Earthiness has gone, though, it is replaced with an almost leathery texture but I can't stress how much mild coffee came through.
Summary - A very well made, sturdy cigar with a very consistent burn. Flavours, primarily coffee and Earth with occasional whippings of cream, though when the cream was present it was very noticeable.
I'm going to keep one or two of these in my humidor, I'm not going to lie and say it's my favourite cigar or a cigar that I could smoke on a regular basis BUT I think this cigar would be at home during a Christmas Eve/ New years party due to its charming size and flavours.
Thanks for reading!
