Good afternoon all,
I've not reviewed a cigar in quite a while now and I've recently purchased a few sticks, some of which I'm ageing now.
One of my purchases was a few sticks of the Vegas Robaina Famosos (2010, according to the shop where I purchased them). This cigar has had decent reviews on the internet and I've seen the VR name pop up a few times on the forum, therefore I decided to give the Famosos a whirl!
As I inspected the cigar I was greeted with a lovely rich, coffee aroma with no real threat of spice.
First third, the first few puffs were quite spicy but nothing OTT, though as the cigar progressed after around ten minutes I was met with a lovely nutty and woody flavour. The nutty and woody flavours were consistent throughout the entire cigar, they never went away which was perfect for me! The smoke was very cloudy and thick, similar to a few of sticks in the Bolivar range, a very generous amount of smoke in the opening third.
Second third, I was met with creamy and coffee flavours though they were only in small amounts but I could definitely taste them. Again, the nutty flavour was there but there was more coffee than wood this time when compared to the first third. There wasn't as much smoke as the first third either, I'm not sure how the smoke managed to die down.
The final third, the woody flavours certainly picked up again and the nutty taste was there throughout. Again, not as much smoke but still a decent amount. This cigar lasted around an hour and twenty minutes but I was getting through my beers like a trojan at this stage, I smoked her too fast during the final third.
The only negative with this cigar was a slight uneven burn, nothing major but I love Bolivar cigars for their consistency and powerful flavours, the VR was nowhere near as full bodied as Bolivar cigars so there is no real point in making a comparison in terms of taste.
Overall, I think my other VR Famosos cigars will remain in my humi. I plan on smoking one next year to see how it has progressed and perhaps my other a year after. I do expect the cream and coffee to really develop though as their roots were present in the second third. I was pleased with this cigar, lots of nice flavours and nothing overpowering!
Appearance (out of 15): 13, very sturdy construction, beautiful aroma and lovely colour.
Smoking characteristics (out of 25): 22
Flavour (out of 25): 21, lots of nice flavours, very consistent but the potential is there for this cigar to become fantastic (I will review this cigar in a year or so)
Overall impression (out of 35):29 A cracking smoke if you're looking for something niche and different, my humi won't ever be without one of these. Very flavoursome with lots of potential, decent construction and lovely aesthetically.
Total score out of 100: 85. I have no doubt this cigar will become an 89/90 with age.

I hope you get to try one of these if you haven't before, they are worthy of a try!
All the best,
Rick
