Bolivar Petit Belicoso 2009 Limited Edition

    Origin : Cuba Format : Petit Belicoso Size : 124 x 21 mm (4.9 x 52) Ring : 52 Construction : Hand-Made

My camera is currently broken, so I have included these from google.

The wrapper, dark to medium chocolate, with some veining.
Salty on the lips, it has a distinct taste of black pepper.
The pre-draw is open and very spicy.
It is one of the best smelling unlight cigars I have had in a while, it smells so inviting!!

Upon the prelight toasting, that welcoming smell is even clearer, it really did smell amazing!!

The draw was literaly perfect, I couldnt fault it. Not too tight, not too loose, just nice and easy.... yummy..
The amount of smoke this cigar produced was also top notch, loads of nice creamy clouds.

To start the cigar is a mix of powerful wood and some strong herbs and spice, mostly spices. It has some complexity but not much, prodomantly just strong clear flavour.
As it smokes it evolves into a more earthier experience, with some very subtle soft chocolate notes, with the herbs and spices still at the front of the show. Personaly these flavours are not my favour, but if you like this sort of thing then I would highly recommend it, as its clearly a great cigar.

Through out The burn was perfect, I have read that others have had some issues but I certrainly didnt experience any.

Bolivar cigars are generally quite powerful. However it suprised me some what, it was nearer medium stength than full, clear full bodied flavours but not full strength overall, if that makes sense?

I would say it has great ageing potential, and it would be interesting to see whether over time it became more full on or wether it mellowed more...

Thanks again for the swap Martin!!

The scores below would be higher, but just due to personal preference it was very nice but not entierly my cup of tea flavour wise, but clearly a quality cigar all the same!

    Appearance (out of 15): 15
Smoking characteristics (out of 25): 24
    Flavour (out of 25): 21
    Overall(out of 35): 30

    Total (out of 100): 90

    Good Job!

Nice write up muchacho! I've read mixed reviews on this puro, so it's nice to get the opinion of a forum member.

    The pictures are fantastic...almost mesmerizing!

Good show giving credit to the proper source.

Nice review, I've passed these up so far - want to work my way through others in the Boli line-up before I give these a go.

They are a very nice smoke and for those that love the classic bolivar flavour they will almost certainly tick the box.

            They look so good.

I'll hopefully get round to ordering one eventually. It really sounds like it would fit my palette.

They're definitely very well made, and really a very enjoyable smoke as well, though I do think a year or two, or three, could be the making of them. Thanks for the review Josh, always like reading other peoples views on sticks I actually have!

Yeah I think they will only get better with age, guess we'll see!

I had one about a year ago and I must admit that I didn't like it at all, I thought the flavours were quite muted and muddy. Could just have been a bad one though, might pick up another single if I see them about.

Yeah personally it wasnt totally to my taste flavour wise, but it was very well made and smoked perfectly, so I do think for people that like spicy cigars it would be great.

For me these were evil and strong when young. I have not tried since but always wondered on their potential. Perhaps time to revisit.

If they do mellow out with age then they would be pretty perfect.
