Initial thoughts: very oily wrapper, half is smooth as a baby's bum and the other half is a bit veiny.
Looking at the filler there seems to be a mix of light and dark tobacco in there.... Perhaps a blend of leaf from a couple different places?
Dry smell is extremely rich, leather and a bit smokey.... Slight hint of sweet tea at the foot. Wetting the end for the cut and it's the leather again.DSC_0095.jpgDSC_0096.jpg
After the cut: Pre light draw is a quite loose despite the dense packing that's already been noted by others. Taste is nutty, with a bit of wood.... That oil on the wrapper is evident on the lips... It's like a woody Brazil nut, there's even a bit of cream in there already.
Things are looking good so far.
Were on fire: It lit beautifully and evenly, the first draw is creamy and slightly woody. Second draw....... Fuck, it just HISSED at me! Seriously, like when you drip a bit of boiling water on a cold piece of metal. I think it's the extremely oily wrapper, I reckon it was the sound of a particularly oily bit of leaf burning. Settling into to the first CM, this is a slow burner. Burn is going off on a bit of a tangent, flavour is still leather and wood... It's not strong, but there's the threat of strength lurking in the background... Something understated and powerful hiding in there... Hard to describe.
Ok, things are getting a bit green bell pepper, a slight vegetal sharpness. Nothing major, also there is a slight tannin dryness though this is all behind the leather. The burn has got its act together and the ash is pearly white. DSC_0100.jpg
Im 99.99% sure this isn't Cuban.... I want to say it's Nicaraguan.... But I'm not sure, every now and then it slightly reminds me of a couple Alec Bradley's I have smoked (Though much better.) So it could be Honduran.
The ash just fell at under an inch and BOOM! Strength ramps straight up... Whack like a big leathery kick in the face. DSC_0101.jpg
Ok, I gave it a moment after the face kicking to let me recover and it's pure creamy wood now.... But still powerful, powerful enough to get me in the throat slightly each time I take a draw.
Fresh black coffee is showing up a bit, more in the aftertaste. And when I say black coffee, I mean STRONG black coffee.
Well getting close to half way and it just started to canoe... Then went out on me.... Time to relight.
Time for a bitter shandy, plenty of Lemonade..... This is going to my head a little.
This is like the bastard child of an Alec Bradley Black Market and a Diesel Unholy Cocktail.... Though better than both.
The burn has sorted itself out again.... But my head is now spinning a bit.... Typical big NC now, strength for the sake of strength.
Damage limitation time, the chocolate is out.... I'm not sure how much further I want to go with this.... Nothing wrong with the flavour which is now earthy wood.... It's just the strength of the thing. DSC_0104.jpg
Well I got a bit more wood out of it and then it went out again. I have had enough enjoyment out of this one and feel I will just be pushing my luck if I keep going.
It was good while it lasted but fell at the final hurdle like most NC's IMO..... Just too strong for my own good! Some of you guys are going to really like this though, especially if you like a full bodied cigar.
If this had been a Petit Belicoso, I reckon we could have been very good friends.
