In the days of the great King Juan Lopez
and the Knights of the Bolivar line,
the treasures of the Don Montecristo
lay heavy upon regal mind.

A great craft was cast on the ocean,
a clipper of the Vegueros class
to seek and torch all before it
before the glory of Cubana was past.

This great ship we called Lusitania
as a match to our Iberian home
Four and eighty tough sports were upon her
and for a year and a day we did roam.

We sang songs to each other by night-time
and worked til we bled in the day
shouting sharp to the shark and the orca
and loud Ahoyo! to manta ray.

Out from the blue on the roughest of seas
came a punch that did shatter our hull
'Up,man! sharpen the lanceros,
let only their bones make them dull!'

The fight blazed all day without mercy
'til a sight made us stagger and moan
for there on the foc'sle, all bloodied,
lay our great Captain Ramon, alone.

Leading a troop of Robustos
we battered our way to his side
and whilst offering our prayers and our fealty
to Saint Luis Rey, he died.

Our ship crept on wounded and listless
and found port at the Quai D'Orsay.
We sang out the Guantanamera
and shed tears for the man we'd obeyed.

We sailed from islet to inlet
accepting what we'd been cast,
bubbling the smoke of cohibas
through brandy and one part a' gas.

Our treasure, it never did find us
but our ensign it never was furled,
and whatever my hopes when I left it,
I went home as the King of the World.
