  • Cuban Cigar Sharing

    Gentlemen (and Ladies)

I wasn't sure where to post this but thought here might be OK.

A colleague went to Cuba just before Christmas and bought some ?real Cuban Cigars? from a man in the street.

She didn?t smoke them but intended to try one and give the others to friends. Either she has run out of friends or no-one dare try them because she has gifted half of them to me.

They were a little dry so I am trying to resuscitate them in my cigar caddy - I used the info in the thread that TJ Coro posted recently. The humidity has been up at 68% for a few days now and they have been quarter turned every day. They have improved in appearance and look to have some life in them - not literally. However I haven?t smoked one yet and they do smell a little funky.

The Cigars are El Credito. Now don?t get carried away they are NOT the ones made in Miami but the ones that Cubans buy at 1CUC per 25.

My colleague paid 60, yes SIXTY, CUC for her paper wrapped bundle ? I know, I know. I was offered similar for 5 CUC in Santa Clara last year and I turned them down.

I have 12 of them and am prepared to give 6 away, in singles, to people who want them.

Please don?t ask for one if you aren?t going to smoke it. This is a chance for anyone who hasn?t had the, er... pleasure to try a cigar that the Cuban?s smoke.

I didn?t pay for them so don?t expect anything in return but certainly don?t expect anyone to try and make anything from them either.

These are dodgy looking, funky smelling cigars that Cubans smoke. They measure 130mm in length and are approximately 53mm round. They might be OK, they might be rather nice but they might be awful.

If you want one PM me your name and address and I?ll send one to the first 6 people to reply, sorry UK only I?m afraid. I?ll cling film wrap them and then put them in cardboard in an envelope, nothing fancy.

In order that I can send you one of these cigars I'll need your address.
You should probably PM me your address rather than list it here. Be quick there aren't many of the 6 left.

Ah I was gifted one of these too. Never smoked it - still in the humi. Really should smoke it one day!

          That's it I have 6 replies.

I'm planning to keep the remaining 6. However when I've smoked my first one I might offer the rest up depending on how good they are.

I'll be getting them ready to post.

I've got a great cigar collection - it's actually not a collection, because that would imply I wasn't going to smoke every last one of 'em.

As everyone els is doing it my one arrived a few days ago but as i think its not the kinda stick that will do well in a humi i smoked it right away it was pretty good for 4 cents.

Thanks again......soooo when is your co worker going back to cuba.

Glad they've all arrived safely, I'm happy to share them out as not everyone has the chance to try these.

Reaver - Mine haven't made it into my humi either, they are still in my caddy and I'm not sure I'll move them across.

I still haven't tried one yet, might do at the weekend.

I had mine last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Obviously it was a bit rough and ready, but it had a nice draw, was very full on the flavour front, burnt well and held it's ash pretty well. It had charm and character in sufficient quantities to make up for it's lack of complexity and refinement. a thoroughly enjoyable forty five minutes were had, i'd buy 25 for a cuc! Thank you wardjrz for sending me this smoke.

I smoked one of my El Credito's yesterday.

I must admit I did approach the task with a bit of trepidation after what I had heard about them in the past. They aren't the best looking cigar you'll find.

I was very pleasantly surprised though, so much so I burnt my fingers because I kept it right until there wasn't anything left.

It did get a little bitter in the last third but I had a piece of chocolate and a black coffee and it finished rather nicely.

It had an equal burn, left a nice ash and had a good draw.

I am looking forward to the others I have left.

If you get chance, give one a go, they aren't anywhere near as bad as I was lead to believe they are. What a recommendation eh?
