Right, I'm having real problems with the humidor! I've been experiencing problems all winter but things have hit an all time low... Literally! Hugo is in a bad way! I use the 65% beads and every time I hydrate them with distilled water he sits spot on 65 or 66, PERFECT! But not for long, 12 hours later I go back and pay Hugo a visit, and again, 65%, nice and healthy. I go to see him again and... 59%! Poor Hugo! I don't mind if its not on 65% dead but this is not good! He is in a stable place with little temperature fluctuation! Is there anything I can do? Any help is greatfully appreciated! James

Not sure why it's decreasing, beads are usually v. v. good. Anyway 59% isn't terrible. What beads do u have? -

How is the seal on the Humidor? Any gaps that you can discern?
Re-Seasoning wouldn't help I wouldn't think as it's been holding just fine, it's not in an area with large temperature fluctuations is it?Sent from my Ouija Board.Comment

Thanks Yeti, its not in an area with bad fluctuation no. And the seal isn't amazing buts its been fine since I got it in the summer so I can't imagine it would be that. How puzzling! It's not a disaster. I think it might just be a combination of the fact it's almost empty and to do with the weather/central heating.Comment

Maybe put a little olive oil round the seal, a tiny tiny amount just to make the seal good.
Feel free to shoot me down with "Dear god Yeti, never, I say NEVER put olive oil on a humidor!!!!"
I did though years ago and it worked for me......or was it KY, can't remember always get those two mixed up, maybe why my dinner parties are such a flop

If he uses KY maybe he won't have 8 cigars in there for long, doesn't it makes things easier to get in and out?

Don't forget temperature, at this time of year the temp fluctuates in houses due to central heating etc. Mine goes up and down all the time. Also how full is your humi? The fuller it is the more stable the humidity. Like others have said don't worry to much about it, if your cigars are smoking well then they are fine!Comment

But based on your first post, I see no problem with "re-seasoning" your box. In fact, it's the first thing I suspect when a unit won't hold a decent humidity level. If you want to test the seal of the lid, take a pound note (dollar bill for some) and place it along the side of the unit so that half is inside and half is hanging out. Now close the lid and try to pull the bill out. If it pulls out with little of no resistance, the seal between the unit and the lid is insufficient.
Finally, you didn't mention what type of hygrometer you are using to measure the humidity.
