Hmmn.. the 'horns of a dilemma'... to say nothing and hope this all works out...or... point out a possible 'flaw' and risk causing offence?
Oh well.. (It doesn't usually stop me).
So here goes...
Whilst I think it's a great idea (in principal), recent events on the 'Stick a stick in it' thread have demonstrated that occasionally 'bad eggs' slip through the net... (the kind of person who, after witnessing the generosity of our fine members... sees an opportunity to take advantage of it).
I'm not saying it's likely to happen again, or that there are any such members active on the forums, however... the 'anonymity' aspect of the thread could be exploited by someone whose mantra is: "Tis better to receive than GIVE".
Also... whilst I support the minimum post rule... I confess, it makes me feel a little uneasy when I see a new member making a whole load of BS posts in a short period of time, just to make their 'count' up... makes me wonder if they have any intention of 'sticking' around long-term, or making a positive contribution to the site. (Not saying it applies to anyone here, just saying we've seen it happen before).
OK, said my piece now.
Hopefully, no one is offended... and my fears will no doubt prove unfounded ('forewarned is forearmed' after all).Originally posted by DRAGMASTEREvery time I sleep with a girl I smoke a cigar while we do it. It's exciting and makes you feel strong, manly and empowered.

El Cat
I did struggle (and still do a bit) with the minimum post count and considered just posting one word repsonses to random threads to get my numbers up.
On balance I decided that I would wait until my count went up naturally and then join in when opportunities arise.
I've seen a few people that appear to be chasing post counts and wondered if they would still be here in 6 months when the novelty has worn off.
It is a fine line though as the reason for joining is often to be part of somehting and having to wait doesn't come naturally to us any more.

Sorry to say but I have to whole heartedly agree with el cat!
Having been stung only recently I have to admit the post count doesn't offer me much in the way of comfort but more so the period of time a user has been active on this forum and the general perception of the user by others on the forum, these things are far more important to me than how many quick fire posts one can churn out in as short a period as possible...

These types of 'cigar passes' have always been a popular part of the forum, and the vast majority have been a great success.
I just wanted to be sure that everyone involved (especially the newbees) understand how these things work... and the (hopefully slight) risks involved.
We were all 'neewbee's' once (except TJ.. obviously), developing a 'track record' takes time.Originally posted by DRAGMASTEREvery time I sleep with a girl I smoke a cigar while we do it. It's exciting and makes you feel strong, manly and empowered.

Wise words, senor private el Kat....wise words indeed. Although I suspect your fine words would be more effective with a few emoticons.
Perhaps we need to revise the criteria to include a minimum time as a member - say 3 months . From the looks of some of the posts recently, achieving the minimum number of posts is hardly a challenge.

I suppose it would have to be a combination of time served and post count. While churning out a few posts takes no time and ultimately cloggs up the forum, a new member could just as easily sign up and then disappear for 3 months until it was time to start trading. It would be a tough gig for moderators to have to judge whether a new member has made a worthy enough contribution to the site since joining."Achieving life is not the equivalent of avoiding death."
